From Bloomberg today. To be perfectly clear, the statute has *always* prohibited race- & sex-based employment discrimination, regardless of the race or sex of the target. The administration is ofc. acting like they’ve discovered one weird trick 🙄🙄🙄

The EEOC's Republican chair has signaled the potential use of its enforcement power over labor unions to target diversity programs on behalf of White and male members, Tobi Raji and George Weykamp report.
EEOC Chair Andrea Lucas recently posted on X that an International Brotherhood of Electrical Workers apprentice might have a claim under federal civil rights law if they believe they've been treated differently because of their race, sex, or national origin. The apprentice had posted that an instructor told him and classmates they were the "wrong minority group" for available jobs.
While federal civil rights law includes antidiscrimination provisions covering labor organizations, it's rare for the EEOC to investigate bias charges against unions. But they could prove fertile ground for an agency that views their efforts to diversify their ranks as discriminatory.
Lucas' comments are "consistent with the Trump administration priorities that have been set up by recent
Supreme Court precedent that we're going to interpret anti-discrimination laws in a color-blind fashion," said Michael Duff, a labor law professor at Saint Louis University. "But it's really anti-historical in the cases involving unions. The overwhelming history is White union leaders discriminating against Black workers."

Look at this gorgeous & heartbreaking crop art by Minnesota artist Jennifer Nelson, inspired by “Guernica.” Thanks @badlawyerpod.bsky.social for bringing it to our attention
Crop art in the style of Picasso’s Guernica. The image depicts a commentary on the federal government’s invasion of Minneapolis and the terror and resilience of the people. A loon is central, its wings spread in protection or in flight. A man lies on the ground, cell phone in hand. An abstract figure with its arms up holds an “ICE OUT” sign.

Doubtless one leading reason why the world declines honoring us whalemen, is this: they think that, at best, our vocation amounts to a butchering sort of business; and that when actively engaged therein, we are surrounded by all manner of defilements. Butchers we are, that is true. But butchers, also, and butchers of the bloodiest badge have been all Martial Commanders whom the world invariably delights to honor. And as for the matter of the alleged uncleanliness of our business, ye shall soon be initiated into certain facts hitherto pretty generally unknown, and which, upon the whole, will triumphantly plant the sperm whale-ship at least among the cleanliest things of this tidy earth. But even granting the charge in question to be true; what disordered slippery decks of a whale-ship are comparable to the unspeakable carrion of those battle-fields from which so many soldiers return to drink in all ladies' plaudits? And if the idea of peril so much enhances the popular conceit of the soldier's profession; let me assure ye that many a veteran who has freely marched up to a battery, would quickly recoil at the apparition of the sperm whale's vast tail, fanning into eddies the air over his head. For what are the comprehensible terrors of man compared with the interlinked terrors and wonders of God!

Dodge City Community College, alarmed now that ICE raids have affected southwest Kansas, proposes DACA 😭
Dodge City Community College: A Community College Pathway to Earned Legal Status and Citizenship
A proposal for rural communities and a Kansas pilot
The problem facing our communities
In our rural communities, some of our neighbors have worked, raised families, and built lives here for years while lacking lawful immigration status. Working, paying taxes, or taking citizenship classes does not, by itself, create a legal pathway to remain in the country.
This leaves communities with a practical question: How can we give eligible, established residents a way to meet clear responsibilities, gain legal status, and continue contributing to the places they call home?
A resource already in place
Community colleges offer a practical starting point. They provide education and workforce training close to the people and employers they serve. Kansas has 19 community colleges, and Dodge City Community College already offers English and citizenship instruction. We can build on that experience to connect local education with a federally authorized pathway to legal status.
The proposed solution
Congress would create a pathway for eligible immigrants already living in the United States, with community colleges providing English, civics, and workforce education. Federal officials would determine eligibility and conduct background checks. Participants would make documented progress, meet legal requirements, and contribute reasonable course fees.
The central commitment is protection from deportation and permission to work while participants meet the pathway's requirements. Federal law would also provide protection during qualifying application and review periods, so that government processing delays do not undermine the opportunity.
Those who complete the educational and other requirements could apply for permanent residence, or green card status, and later seek citizenship under federal law. Colleges would teach and document progress; federal officials would make immigration decision…
