Happy #Caturday from Henry, who was just trying to get a photo opportunity in his favourite box when he was photobombed by his sister…
A large ginger and white cat sits in a box on its side, facing the camera. A muzzle and a set of whiskers encroach on the shot from the top left hand corner.

Henry is sad about the heatwave and disputes that lying *next to* a cooling mat is not the most logical approach to improving matters.
A large ginger and white cat lies on his back on the floor. He is next to a blue cooling mat, because he is a fool.

Hey, Matilda! Do a nice pose for people for International Cat Day!
A small calico cat sits on a rumpled bed, back legs akimbo, one ear back, mouth open. It’s not her best look.

Always exciting to be editing your photos and find you’ve captured a horse eating a tiny person head-first.
A beautiful shire horse is pulling a plough driven by a man in a blue shirt and red braces. There are legs which look as if they are protruding from the horse’s mouth (that are actually from a man in shorts walking past).

It is cooler today, so after days of over-heated lethargy, Matilda is full of beans…
A small calico cat is inside a grey play tunnel, staring out of the hole. Her eyes are wide, she is partially upside-down, her whole demeanour screams ‘menace’…

A nice thing - King’s College harvests its wildflower meadow every year with beautiful horses and traditional equipment. I went to see it this morning.
A shire horse pulling a piece of equipment I do not know the name of, shamefully - in the background there are orange flowers on a climbing plant; one man leads the horse, another guides the equipment.A shire horse walks in front of the main door of King’s College Chapel.A shire horse walks towards me across the wildflower meadow.A shire horse stands in the wildflower meadow in the shadow of King’s College Chapel.

Cambridge was looking pretty this morning.
A view from a bridge over the river Cam, under a bright blue sky. A few people are sitting on the wall of Trinity Hall and there are several punts on the river. No one has yet fallen off their punt, but it was early.

Last night’s game was just mad, joyful fun - tonight’s could be a grim old business. Anyway, Vamos Espana!🇪🇸 #thefootball

Awful. But it’s been so much fun (up till now…)! That night in the Azteca was something else… #thefootball

I realise that the football and the heat have combined forces to render me a mere shell of the woman I once was.
A close up of a smart watch showing a decrease in sleep duration from 6hrs 48mins to 5hrs 13mins average for the week. I am a wreck, I tell you. A wreck.

Yesterday Bonnie Tyler died which was sad, and I played the cat I am looking after Total Eclipse Of The Heart and Holding Out for A Hero in tribute, which the cat appeared to enjoy. Today Ann Widdecombe died. I did not bother to mention it to the cat.

We have been looking after my daughter’s cat this week while she and her wife are away, and being 95% fluff, Mimi has thoughts on this heat…
A Ragdoll cat lies on a pale duvet - she has been caught mid-meow so she looks as if she is wailing… A close up of the wailing Ragdoll’s face…

Matilda has had enough of the heatwave.
A smallish calico cat lies on her back on a cooling mat. It is not elegant.

In which Henry does not understand the bladeless fan and attempts to catch the air coming out of it…🤦🏼‍♀️
A large ginger and white cat raises a paw to bat the air coming out of a black bladeless fan. We love him, but really.

My view at 6am today. Because even in a heatwave, Matilda does not believe in personal space.
A calico cat lies upside down on a duvet - the photo is taken looking down the bed, by the poor, squashed soul in there at the time.

For #Caturday, a selection of things that Henry likes to do in the heat.

I feel really sad for Arsenal fans who can’t watch tonight because the game isn’t on free-to-air - especially as I have the required channel but am probably too anxious to watch. (I hid in the kitchen for most of the last few Premiership games…)

Just told Henry he needs to step up and be Prime Minister. He was initially surprised but I explained about Wes Streeting and now he’s fully on board and ready to serve.

Just for once I would like a break from Instagram ads telling me ‘You’re old!’ ‘Take collagen!’ ‘Do weights!’ ‘Relax! Right now!’ ‘Lose weight!’ ‘You’re a mess!’. Guys, I came to look at nice things people are doing. These days I can barely see them through the bullying.

So either I ordered a sofabed which came today or Henry met a genie and wished for the biggest cardboard box in the world.
A large ginger and white cat sits on top of a huge cardboard box. He cannot believe his luck.

We have spent the long weekend so far redecorating the daughter’s old bedroom and miraculously, Matilda is not green…
A small calico cat sits in front of a freshly-painted green wall. Her myriad calico colours are entirely devoid of green paint. Those of us who know Matilda acknowledge this as an Easter miracle.

I accept that Henry’s big handsome face cannot improve the news, but it’s still nice to look at, so I offer it here.
A great big ginger and white cat lies on his side and stares into the camera with big golden eyes. His whiskers are magnificent. He is not the sharpest knife in the kitchen drawer and his expression confirms this - but he’s big and squishy and improves almost any situation.

Henry has strong feelings about me trying to watch the figure skating tonight.
A large ginger and white cat stands on a laptop keyboard, completely obscuring the screen with his considerable bulk.

Daffodils and snowdrops and hellebores, oh my - on this 275th and final day of January, some hope of spring for my fellow SAD-sufferers out there, from Anglesey Abbey this morning!
A group of bright yellow daffodils, with plentiful greenery.A group of snowdrops, in sun and dappled shade.A single white hellebore, with beads of dew on the petals.A pretty pink blossom - maybe verbena? I should have looked this up before doing the alt text…

A really very chubby grey squirrel. Seriously, this guy is not shy at the buffet.

Matilda and I thought we’d watch a little tennis in bed.
It’s dark, but a laptop is showing the Australian Open tennis - this is a close-up of Cameron Norrie. The back view of a cat is in front of the keyboard, her ears lit by the glow of the screen, which she is watching.

#DuvetKnowItsChristmas first one at the in-laws, my wife’s bedroom now rightfully belongs to foster cats (and we have brought our own bemused ragdoll) so we’re in with the bitcoin machine being watched over by a Clanger and Gary Numan, with an honourable mention to the two (2) banjoleles @rhodri.biz

I call this one ‘Just Looking…’.
A small calico cat sits on the arm of a grey sofa looking up at a decorated Christmas tree. While currently blameless, she is clearly plotting.

The girls came round to open their wedding presents. Matilda was a big fan.
A small calico cat sits in the middle of a pile of gold, silver and white wrapping paper. A small calico cat stares straight at the camera, appalled at the suggestion that the wrapping paper might need to be cleared away.

Yesterday the daughter married her girlfriend. It was a completely wonderful day - plus I am now a mother-in-law which is obviously a very young and hip thing to be…
Two young women in wedding dresses hold hands - there are bubbles in the air all around them as a confetti substitute. One has red hair and carries a bouquet of predominantly red flowers, the blonde woman holds a white one with winter foliage. They are beaming.

Henry helpfully demonstrating the essence of cats.

I was a bit nervous before going to see Neil Hannon and the fantastic @divinecomedyhq.bsky.social in Cambridge last night. I’m a bit freaked out by crowds, but I’ve loved them for years and I’m so glad I went. It was absolutely brilliant. Thanks to Neil and the stunning band!

This weekend I am cat-sitting this ridiculous Botticelli Angel in feline form…
A huge Ragdoll cat faces the camera in a loaf shape, her huge blue eyes gazing upwards. She sits on a green duvet, her massive white paws just visible. Seriously, she’s so pretty it’s unfair.

Apologies for doing a bread post like it’s 2020 but I tried a new folding technique and my sourdough came out all perky so I just wanted to share.

Yesterday, exactly five years to the day after she matriculated as a new undergrad (pic 1), the daughter did it all over again before starting her PhD at St Catharine’s College, Cambridge (pic 2). Very proud of her (and the increasing amounts of black cloth she gets to wear as the years go by!)

This photo popped up as a memory and I can’t remember whether the daughter’s small bears were re-enacting Romeo and Juliet or Much Ado. Sometimes home education was a lot of fun…
A collection of very small teddy bears are wearing assorted masks, clearly at a grand ball!

At Henry’s annual vet check yesterday, it was suggested that he might be a trifle portly. He is processing the news.
A large ginger and white cat sits with his paws neatly crossed. His expression is thoughtful (and maybe slightly hurt).

We moved some furniture around at the weekend and it has taken Henry FOUR DAYS to work out that he can still get up on the windowsill he likes.
A large ginger and white cat sits on a windowsill on a sunny day - he’s behind a grey curtain. His expression is sweet, and also incredibly dim. We love our dim cat very much.

Today I handed over an eye-watering amount of money for the daughter’s wedding dress. Then I got charged £10 for a dress bag… I should be clear, I don’t begrudge a penny for the dress. The dress is gorgeous. But I begrudge that tenner like you wouldn’t believe.

This morning I chose a workout featuring ‘holiday’ music because I thought it sounded summery. Of course, due to cultural differences between Apple Fitness and here, I ended up exercising to Christmas music. I’ve spent all day in the university library humming Kelly Clarkson’s ‘Underneath The Tree’.

Punts, geese, sunshine, an absolute shitload of scaffolding - all of summer in Cambridge together in one shot…
A view over the River Cam - there are three double punts full of people in the foreground, plus three geese. The sky is a deep blue, and on the left of the picture is a whole building’s worth of scaffolding.
