Compelling new calculator, and useful to be able to look up the specifics for my university (and other locations). We can meet the needs of our communities, and instead are paying for the horror of immigration enforcement.
A calculator showing that Stony Brook University taxpayers currently fund $4893/taxpayer for mass deportations, but could instead spend on 30 teachers, 32 firefighters, 404 people on medicaid, 190 veterans' medical care, 268 head start slots, or 27 registered nurses.

New Yorkers deserve solutions that meaningfully address hate violence — not political theater & half-measures. Instead of voting to pass unserious & anti-democratic “buffer zone” bills, @council.nyc.gov should invest $26-30 million in evidence-based non-carceral hate violence prevention. Read why:

NY's TDI program's insufficient, outdated funding creates huge inconsistencies with the paid family leave program. If you need it for yourself you get $170/week, but if your family member has the same injury or condition you can receive >$1200/week. It's long past time to reconcile these policies.
