Curators shape cultural memory—they often determine what histories are preserved and centered. Hear from LeRonn P. Brooks, curator of African American collections and acquisitions at Getty, on a new book "Black Curators Matter: Conversations on Art and Change": gty.art/3VC7wXc
The profile of man in a navy blazer and white shirt looking at a photo of a black and white photo of the Los Angeles cityscape. Text reads: Broadening the Idea of American Art. Reflecting on what Black curators preserve, and why it matters.

Last night Sleater Kinney shredded while much of the audience didn’t care and then Liz Phair’s horrible AI graphics made her show unwatchable. Disappointing show. Saw Squeeze not too long ago and they were incredible.

ICE has fallen out of the headlines but July marked the largest number of migrant detentions ever on record. Five migrants have died in ICE custody in the last two months. It's also currently impossible to legally migrate to this country, as 100% of visa applications have been paused.

Lemuel Haynes was a Revolutionary War veteran & the 1st Black (mixed-race) man to be ordained as a minister in the US. He argued for universal rights in his 1776 antislavery tract, Liberty Further Extended, challenging the pretense of a nation fighting for its own freedom while denying it to others.

I’m just sharing a little tip. Take it for what you will. You sounded very combative in response to a thoughtful comment someone made. That is common on many online platforms- to argue over everything. But you don’t have to act that way.
