Yeah, to my understanding, classics could be anything from Greece to Rome to Phoenicia to Carthage and that's just in half of the Med!

Sometimes my wife and I like to send each other text messages as though they’re democratic fundraising messages, and I believe she has produced the jewel of the form.
, it's
and I
have some personal news to share with you.
Being a mom is one of the greatest joys of my life, and I feel deeply that we should have salad tonight
This year has been challenging in many ways, and I have immense gratitude for the kindness and support of family, community, and people like you who have continued to stand by me through everything. It means the world, and I wanted you to be among the first to know that squash is in the oven and kale is in the fridge. As many of you are aware, ve been navigating one of the most challenging periods of my day while waiting for dinner.
Facing baseless federal hunger brought on by not eating since lunch, fighting for the working kids of this country, and now caring for a mean toddler and helping him grow up in a world that isn't always easy. But it has also reminded me exactly why I do this work and who I do it for.
I will never stop working to eat dinner. I will never stop fighting for what is right, even when there is also some feta in the fridge. And I will never stop being so very thankful that you are by my side in this important work and that there is tahini in the pantry for dressing
With love and gratitude,
stop to end

From 1940 in Shornemead Fort in Kent, England. These were coastal defense gunners interrupted during drag show rehearsal who had to quickly man their gun. Somehow, they still won the war.
A black and white photo of a group of men in very frilly dresses who are manning a coastal defense gun.

I don’t care where you started out on the political spectrum If your kid comes out as trans & you don’t become a rainbow-clad, parade-cheering ally & rock-solid supportive girl/boy/enby dad/mom? You were never a parent at all You were a doll collector furious they didn’t stay in their packaging.

Also, a blue Texas makes the Presidency completely unwinnable for the GOP. They can't make up the electoral votes anywhere else.

And in Michigan it's election day registration. You can register at the clerk's office and vote immediately. If you think it's too late to register, it's very much not.

I just get hives when people get to define someone else's identity. I don't feel like there's anything nefarious about the California law or anything, but there were people defined as Jewish under the Nuremburg Laws who didn't consider themselves to be Jewish. I don't know. Maybe it's all good. 🤷‍♂️

Making Jewishness a thing you are and not a thing you do or a thing you believe also feeds the dual loyalty antisemetic trope. I get what you're saying and it's unquestionably right, but man, I wish we had different names for the ancestral background and the followers of the faith.
120
Michael Seraphim @mseraphimsl.bsky.social · 03/10/2026
It's confusing because both the ancestral background and the religion are called by the same name. There are certainly people who have long Jewish family backgrounds who don't follow the faith and converts (hello Sammy Davis Jr.!) who have no Jewish ancestry at all.

We can work for efficiency, but all the stuff DOGE did was not only evil and stupid, but hurt efficiency! I'm perfectly fine with a platform of we want to spend money to improve America, the world and all of humanity. Let's spend it well.

We should be working to make sure government expenditures are efficient. Know what's a great return on expenditure? Foreign aid. Domestic cash assistance. Medicare for all. Robust immigration. Investment in basic science.

This is really the heart of what the Nuremberg laws were about. Defining Jewishness as a heritable trait rather than a chosen religion is bad news.

A black bird stands on some cracked concrete, looking upwards at camera. The angle, its stance and its plumage - white eyes are the only let-up from the black - makes the bird look thoroughly pissed off

Big Balls' grandfather was KGB Colonel Valery Martynov. He was coerced back to Moscow under false pretenses after the Ames affair, arrested, & executed for being a double agent. His grandmother was stripped of all assets & forced to do drudge work to support herself, his mom. & uncle. Details👇1/

If anyone can be denied due process, nobody has it. You can just be placed into the group without rights and denied the ability to contest it. This argument isn't just unconstitutional, it's anti-constitutional. It's against the very idea of limiting the powers of government.

Especially when documents proving your legal status, even documents that prove your citizenship, can just be ignored by DHS without recourse. I'm thinking of the woman with a certified original birth certificate from a Maryland hospital who was detained anyway and told her document was forged.
