Yesterday was future day and it was great fun to show our work at @thuenen-som.bsky.social to the future generation of scientists. We explored soil respiration before we went to a soil pit for soil characterisation. Finally, we counted our most important soil engineers, earthworms. 🪱🪱🪱

Soil spectroscopy is a powerful tool for accurately estimating a set of soil properties, like organic carbon and particle size distribution. It is also cheaper, faster, and more scalable than conventional analysis methods, which can be a game changer for soil MRV.

Happy world soil day! Soil of the year in Germany is the Renzina (Leptosol). Rendzina is a shallow soil and common on carbonate-rich rocks. The name is Polish and describes the sound of a plough hitting the solid rock. Here is my favourite photo I took in the alps.
