Thermo-sensing mechanisms of splicing control by nuclear stress bodies
Ueno et al. show that the phosphorylation of CLK1 functions as a molecular switch controlling its temperature-dependent localization to nuclear stress bodies. This regulation is mediated by a multilayered thermosensing mechanism involving PPP1R2, an intrinsically disordered thermosensor regulating PP1-mediated dephosphorylation during stress, and RIOK2-dependent rephosphorylation during recovery, coordinating temperature-dependent pre-mRNA splicing.
