Which pandemic experiences were associated with marriage and childbirth in #Iran? Uncertainty about how long COVID-19 would last? Job loss? Income loss? Vaccination? Losing a close relative? We examine these questions using survey data from 1,214 respondents: www.nature.com/articles/s41...

Iran’s stock market reopening is an important signal, but caution is needed. It reflects pressure to restore normality, while investors still face uncertainty, inflation, currency depreciation, and sanctions. My comments for @aljazeera.com youtu.be/WLVyuJa9pHw #Iranwar @unimarburg.bsky.social

The #IranWar exposes the political economy of volatility. When chaos becomes politically useful & rewarding, insiders gain while citizens absorb the costs. In Project Syndicate, I examine how coercion, uncertainty, & private gain interact in this war. shorturl.at/HBV0u

Science runs on replication networks. Cut the connection and the nervous system cant refresh its models of reality. A shutdown is an experiment in isolation — with no control group.

How sanctions eroded Iran’s middle class
International sanctions are used as a powerful tool of statecraft, but their broader societal consequences are often overlooked. Since 2012, comprehensive sanctions on Iran have drastically eroded its middle class, undoing decades of social progress and undermining a key engine of economic stability and political moderation.
