Only two moths last night due to blustery wind and clear skies. Nevertheless, can’t complain when one of them was Flounced Chestnut, a garden ✅ and scarce species in the county these days. The other one was a November Moth agg. #TeamMoth @teesbirds.bsky.social

Dogs are one of a handful of species that have trained another mammal to dispose of their faeces. Humans only require an iota of intelligence to undertake this task yet many fail when it comes to undertaking this simple duty associated with keeping a hound! 🙄

@ukceh.bsky.social I notice that your wonderful iRecord app has been updated lately. I’m a huge fan of this tool for biodiversity reporting but am disappointed that the satellite view has been reduced in scale. I can no longer zoom in adequately to pinpoint small sections of a site. Please rectify!

An outstanding review of the myriad ways insects are central to vertebrate survival. They appropriately call attention to how much we still don't know about these interactions and how to conserve them, but avoid (intentionally?) calling attention to the fact that we are included in 'vertebrates'!

Think it’s just a fearless first winter bird which has been seen around the suburbs of Sheffield for a few weeks visiting garden ponds and the adjacent Porter Brook. Apparently someone even disturbed it down the passageway between some terraced houses (known as a ginnel locally) the other day!

The only time I ever reach for my balaclava is when navigating through the frozen mountains in a blizzard. And, like my ice axe, I can’t see any real justification for their use on the streets. They are literally enabling crime and disorder, as seen yesterday at the Port of Dover.

BBC has been an increasingly right-wing propaganda channel for a long time; just look at how much air time they give to certain dodgy political parties on Question Time. There’s the odd decent programme and presenter but the majority of the listings are just awful. 🙄

‘Who feels it knows’ it is the saying. Warning them of cemetery, hospital or jail only really carries weight when heard from those who have been there and learned the lesson the hard way and is often the only way to turn around those on a path to serious crime, hard drugs etc Best wishes!

I’ve always been fascinated by the subject esp. in the context of shifting baseline syndrome; a situation when huge changes have occurred to say, an ecosystem, without us realising what we’re missing eg many people simply believe that the North Sea has always been devoid of apex predators. Not so!
