Hey! If you are a game developer who has worked on getting a game to run well on Xbox Series S and struggled to do so, I'd love to chat with you about that experience. You can reply to this post OR: Zzwiezen@kotaku.com DM me here Also have Signal for anonymous chatting, ping me for that

As of today, I'm unfortunately no longer with Voxel Plugin. I'm not sure what's next, but I'll be taking some time to reflect. (And do side-projects?) It's been an incredible journey. I love the projects we've empowered, and everyone I met. If anyone wants to chat, my Discord (Mr4Goosey) is open ♥

Does anyone else not tweet about their work because of impostor syndrome? I feel like I've got expertise in some game-dev topics I could meaningfully share thoughts in, but I just can't get over the feeling that more competent folks will come and point out I'm super wrong in every way.

I'm starting a new blog on #techart tips focused on short snippets and lesser-known functionalities. First 'fragment' is up: Editing the #UE5 Engine Shaders (without recompiling the engine) chosker.github.io/blog/editing...

This was long overdue and took wayyyyy too long to produce, but here it is. There are still a few knowledge gaps I was hoping to fill, but I ran out of time. 📺 Watch here: www.youtube.com/watch?v=NxIa...

I made a directional noise type I call Phacelle Noise which is pretty fast! Is it new or does something functionally identical already exist? I'm not sure! But I didn't come across one like this yet anyway, so here's my findings: blog.runevision.com/2026/01/phac... #Graphics #Shaders #Shadertoy

I've been running an indie games studio for 15 years now, and it felt like a good time to boil down what I've learned into 4 pieces of advice: www.pentadact.com/2026-01-08-1... I hope it's of use, not least because goddamn I forgot how long blog posts take to write.
A timeline visually representing the advice from my post, emphasising how dramatically and reliably having more time, with a testable build, converts to your game being better and your studio being safer.

One of the things I'm adding in the upcoming Universal Wind Shader update is a fun math trick which takes your surface-aligned grass, and adjusts the geo to be 'world' up again (instead of local) using WPO. This stops your grass from floating, without making it look like it's growing sideways!

I generally avoid posting about politics, but please all, be mindful in your travel plans. The world is a wild place.

My plugin for #UnrealEngine is almost done! It lets you blend any mesh. Not just landscape, not PDO. This magic lets you blend anything!🤯 #GameArt #UE5 #GameDev

In Unreal you can make specific nodes Development only with hotkeys. Go into your editor preferences and search for Nodes. You'll see entries for Enable Nodes (Always) and Enable Nodes (Development). I've set them to ctrl alt A and ctrl alt D. Enjoy! ✨ #Unreal #Blueprint

I posted a few days ago the shader ISA code for the atan2() instruction, the size of which appeared to catch people by surprise. This inspired me to write a blog post to discuss the “hidden” cost of shader instructions a bit more. interplayoflight.wordpress.com/2025/01/19/t...

The hidden cost of shader instructions
I posted a few days ago a screenshot of the long shader ISA code produced by the RGA compiler for a single atan2() instruction. The post got quite a large engagement and it felt like a lot of peopl…

A 🧵 on Bindless Textures in UE5! In UE5.5, bindless textures seem to be non-experimental. But they're still disabled by default, and entirely undocumented. Enabling them should, in most cases, be a performance gain. Doing so will also let you 'bypass' the limits on unique SRV and samplers. 1/x

LUMEN PSA: if you're seeing weird splotchy jitter artifacts with Lumen on foliage meshes, like in this vid, try increasing r.Lumen.ScreenProbeGather.Temporal.MaxFramesAccumulated This will stabilize your screen probes, at the cost of making your Lumen react less quickly to fast lighting changes.

Continuing the work on seasons! Much more foresty vibes to the entire world now, with spring/summer feeling properly lush. Really feel like it's coming together well.

I'm off work, so obviously that means it's time to work on my own #techart stuff! Having fun playing with seasons, trying really hard to make it work without needing extra assets for the different seasons. If the project lives, it'll be a survival game in-between Subnautica and The Long Dark 👀

I used to think about moving to (and hiking in) the northern Swedish countryside when I played The Long Dark. Now I've made that move, and I instead find myself thinking about playing The Long Dark while I hike through the snowy Swedish forests.
