Doc Cox was exposed as a song writer of filth by either an outraged viewer who wrote in or something in the press and this was at the end of one series of That's Life in the 80s. On air, Ester suspended him for as long as the series break lasted... Justice prevailed.

70 years ago today, the BBC showed a recording of the CBC's Flight into Danger - later remade as the film Airplane!, and one of the important steps on the way to the creation of #DoctorWho. To celebrate, here's a much longer edit of my audio documentary telling Flight into Danger's story:

The year according to Peter Haining’s ‘Doctor Who: The Key to Time’ — Today in 1981: Not a very exhaustive notice for Kit Pedler, who had an impressive career beyond Doctor Who. Read Michael Seely’s biography: www.fantompublishing.co.uk/product/mich... …

Kit Pedler, co-creator with Gerry Davis of the Cybermen, and scientific adviser to the series, dies aged fifty-three. His knowledge of technology and his uncannily prophetic view of the future were strikingly revealed in several Doctor Who stories such as ‘The War Machines’ and ‘The Moonbase’.Cover for hardback edition of Michael Seely’s Kit Pedler biography ‘Cybermen: The Quest for Pedler’. I enjoyed reading the first part of THE ESCAPE OF RD7 (starring #BarbaraMurray) which I found tighter than THE MONSTERS. Interesting that Murray's character should be researching the trachoma virus, which we're sadly still familiar with via the charity ads on Talking Pictures TV.
