I've now made it farther than in any past replay attempt, but I took a break and now idk if I'm even gonna finish it. I arguably didn't in the first place (didn't beat the final base game boss, nor finish either DLC--though I did attempt all three).

Finally giving Dark Souls 3 another go, at a friend's encouragement. It's still my least favorite of the FromSaga games I've played, by far. I'm getting through it quicker (forewarned is forearmed), but it still feels off. The whole world is mud-grey, and it's somehow both too slow and too fast.

They did it. Opted in by default, so decent odds your existing content has already been added to the training pool. Settings > Security and Privacy > scroll dowwwwwn > Training for Generative AI

Training for Generative AI is the second-to-last item, toggled OFF.

Not that dev time is a 100% more=better metric, but I do think it's a useful way to point out that for the same team to be cooking for this much longer, it's safe to assume there's going to be more on the table once it's all done.

That's how it was originally announced. It ended up blowing WAY out of scope, including time spent developing it. And Scarlet Hollow still has something like 3x the development time *and counting.*

Let me put it this way: Slay the Princess was their quick side project as a break from Scarlet Hollow. That's not to say StP isn't good (I can't really judge it; I'm waiting to have the patience to play a game with full VA before I give it another shot), but that Scarlet Hollow has a TON going on.

The news that Twitch is likely to launch stream content scraping soon isn't helping, either. I'm not surprised (except maybe about how long they took to pull this), but I'm still disappointed. It doesn't help that the most viable alternative is owned by a company that's very likely to follow suit.

(the time limit is less about my interest/enjoyment level--if a game isn't fun, I'll drop it fairly quickly--and MUCH more about a preference for story-focused stuff that I have a chance of actually finishing on stream. playing a puzzle game forever in hopes of finding all the lore is not my niche.)

(To be fair, I bought this game with the understanding that I would probably play a few rounds and then quit. Then I found out there was story/lore, so the goal shifted to "until I complete the story." I don't know how obtainable that goal is, given the nature of RNG.)

This is fine for folks who want to play the puzzle forever, but the main factor driving me is the story and the mystery. So having a run that's all mechanics and minimal progress on the mystery feels kind of crappy, even if it's a "good" run.

Starting the next day with 20 extra steps. If I'd had the energy for a 4-hour stream, I probably would have gone for it. That last run was really solid, and took a full 2 hours! Saturday should be a long run, too 🤞
