Ozette Makah potatoes, brought directly from South America by the Spanish to the Makah people who tended them since the 18th century. We got to grow these this year thanks to the South American tribes who grew them, the Makah and, I suppose the Spanish.I wonder though…1/

It is never lost on us that the land we get to live on belonged to the Elwha S’Klallam people. I have trouble reconciling that I am here and they are not. I wonder who may have walked by this grandmother maple when she was young,who (a white colonizer likely) cut those old growth stumps?
