In case anyone on this App also follow me on X this is to confirm I have deactivated my account forthwith. That's 6k followers who'll need to switch to Blue Sky to share my sense of humour and love of Britain. Elon Musk has gone too far.

The very local place names I learned from people in Grasmere, Cumbria today: * Tenters - A footpath in the village. * Flosh Lonning - also a local footpath. * Shoo-Ducks - name of a bridge over a small brook near the village centre.

Hi, I’m Kerrie. I am an experienced hiker, backpacker & packrafter. Much of my exploration has been in the southwest. I have 🦋 completed 2500+ miles in the Grand Canyon, much off-trail. 🦋 Thru hiked the #HaydukeTrail & the #ColoradoTrail 🦋 Experience as a geologist so expect some nerdy rock posts😄

Trivia of the Day: The Crier of Claife is the only ghost to be marked on OS Maps. I'll be re-telling the story of the Crier of Claife at the Christmas Readings at the Hare and Hounds, near Kendal #Cumbria on Monday (Dec 2). Join me if you dare! www.hareandhoundslakes.com/service-page...

There's a strong belief that the Lakeland Fells were made by a giant and in some cases he used the same mould!

My thanks to the Friends of the Beacon, Whitehaven for a festive evening talking about Cumbrian Christmas traditions. Sadly, there were no snow pancakes (yes, they are a thing!), but I did have some Cumberland gingerbread made to the recipe of late fell running legend Jos Naylor.

I spend my days walking old postal paths in Britain that were once walked by rural postmen and women. In the evening, I handwrite letters.

So far, I only know the chapter numbers are different.I was reading something else that referred to the Hillwalking book but my chapter numbers didn't match theirs. That was the clue my edition was out of date.

I realised my copy of this book was two decades old. It put weight on between the first and third editions.
Two copies of a green book, both titled "Hillwalking". The one on the right is thicker than the one on the left. The edge of two green books. The one on the right is about a quarter thicker than the one on the left.

You can change the platform but can't change the people with internet access. Block and report have always been needed on forums. I equate it with disengaging from awkward conversations with people whose views you don't share in real life.

Well, I came to Bluesky because it was supposed to be better than twitter. Been on here a week and already had to report/block someone and block someone Private messaging me. It seems to be the same as twitter, just without Musk.

Looking forward to April when I head back out to Nepal to lead a group to the summit of Gokyo Ri. This fabulous trek is in a quieter part of the Khumbu, but you still get amazing views of all of the high mountains, including Everest. www.grahamuneymountaineering.co.uk/nepal-renjo-...
