Bill Parker, W8DMR, was the first amateur to transmit an amateur television test pattern (see picture of it on page 4 of the PDF at www.worldradiohistory.com/Archive-DX/H... ) using a solid-state image sensor, having been active in amateur television since 1949.

He was an electrical engineer known for pioneering the use of solid-state image sensors for amateur television in 1974. His extensive technical contributions include designing the Dual Rhomboid antenna and authoring numerous articles on microwave transmitters and J-pole antenna theory.

He was a brillliant person and had several tech articles published in radio magazines that you can find on https:// archive.org by searching "W8DMR." This is a Youtube video from 2014 of Bill Parker giving a talk about his favorite subject, LEDs: www.youtube.com/watch?v=TI3X... .

The war ended while he was waiting to be deployed for the invasion of Japan. He came home and got a BSEE degree from Ohio State Univ. He was a radio station engineer, and taught night school. He got his ham license and built his own gear. He liked SSTV & was a member of the local SSTV club.

Locally prominent ham radio William "Bill" Parker, W8DMR, of Columbus, Ohio died on Fri. July 24, 2026 at the age of 99. He died peacefully in his sleep at home. He was a WW2 Navy vet who worked with early radar. As a teen, he was training others on how to use radar!

I will add something else that might be relevant to why I am getting errors trying to get into your Discord group - I cannot get into any Discord server now. Something is hosed up on my Discord account where it needs some type of email verification that I haven't been able to fix.

Thanks Guy - I tried your new weblink and got the same error. Is it possible for you to also set up an email list for your group so that you don't need a lot of time debugging a lot of users' Discord problems?
