you don't want to use an iterative solver when you have two spheres and you can just check distance against radius, but also, if you've scaled or sheared those spheres such that they're no longer spheres, well, you can't do that anymore

I have implemented GJK... now for the arduous process of silently swapping out my collision code for GJK when it makes sense and keeping the existing code when it's faster all while changing nothing on the surface

It also explains why some of the hardest hitting songs *sonically* I read the lyrics and was like 'what the fuck are they actually talking about...?' If you give vague semantic gestures, and avoid directly stating what you mean, the listener has no choice but to emotionally connect with *themselves*

It explains why, now that I'm trying to write more 'composed' music, where the notes actually say things, why I'm having trouble getting that intimate/melancholic/introspective texture - it was because of ambiguity in the first place. So now my quest is to figure out how to balance it all.

oh my god this explains everything. My old songwriting process deliberately avoided making a musical 'statement', so I got that 'introspective' sound basically for free. It also explains why it might have fell flat for other listeners - they were *my* emotions.

extremely important discovery: introspective sounding music is often just ambiguous; they're not telling you perfectly how to feel something complex, they're giving you a sonic background and just enough sentiment that you fill in the gaps with your own complex emotional world

Like, I think the nicest-to-use game engines expose the capabilities you need, systems that work with each other and cohere with each other, while also not deciding semantically what a game should actually be beforehand.

In my experience writing game engines there seems to be a spectrum with 'collection of independent game-related libraries' on one end and 'an actual game but we removed the game from it' on the other end.
