Oh wait- the title does pop up at the start. Hurrah!

Monstermaker @monstermaker.bsky.social · 14h

Getting annoyed by films that don't show the title until the end. Anyway, continuing The Conjuringverse, next up is The Nun (2018) #SHOCKtober

Because I've never seen the first sequel, I'm watching The Amityville Horror (1979) first. #SHOCKtober

Count Down does a trippy live performance of Nilsson's Jump into the Fire, which I know from the Goodfellas soundtrack. So odd seeing Harry's face instead of a sweaty Ray Liotta.

Monstermaker @monstermaker.bsky.social · 02/10/2026

Oh and it's a musical. Count Downe has been "into every conceivable type of music there is, y'know," and that includes the Nilssen.songbook thankfully.

110

Monstermaker @monstermaker.bsky.social · 02/10/2026

Nilssen plays "Son of Dracula", Count Downe (!), Freddie Francis is Dr Frankenstein and it all looks like it was shot on a long, drunken weekend by accident. Here's Nilssen!

Nilssen, with long ginger hair and beard, looking hung over.

It's available in a hideous AI "upscaled" but still murky transfer on YouTube. I suspect the film's one saving grace is its mercifully short duration. youtu.be/cfkHN_QxNcw?...

Quite accidentally I've gone for a Freddie Francis double bill tonight. Er... Son of Dracula (1973) starring Ringo Starr and Harry Nilsson.

Might be heresy but that was much better than Hammer's wolfman film. David Rintoul's makeup looks similar to Oliver Reed's but he's much more sympathetic.

120

Monstermaker @monstermaker.bsky.social · 02/10/2026

Written by John Elder, directed by Freddie Francis, there's no messing about - first wolf-out happens in first 15 mins and uses jump cuts to achieve an effective transformation.

Peter Cushing, Ron Moody and Roy Castle star in a 1975 Tyburn horror that feels like Hammer - Legend of the Werewolf (1975). #SHOCKtober

You get considerably less from Netflix. Their entire new monthly output is less than a day of BBC stuff.

Highly probable that would not have been visible on original airing due to the curved shape of the screen

The copies I'm watching are digitised from off air VHS recordings, but that's an interesting idea. Modern screens show more!

Halfway through s2 of Lou Grant. The boom operator clearly loved the acting as he makes his presence known repeatedly through every episode.
