When I first saw this photo, I thought that the crowd were carrying the plane like it was crowd surfing...
A photo of a crowd of people standing in front of an F117 Nighthawk stealth fighter and the open back of a US Army transport plane.
The heads of the crowd is perfectly in line with the undercarriage of the Nighthawk.

I decided to buy some local art today, on a whim. This little guy just looks so cheerful and vibrant.
A light blue glass bird with an orange beak and big eye standing on a small piece of wood. In front of the bird ia a green glass cactus with red spines.
They are only a few centimetres tall.

Yesterday, I stumbled across a statue in Budapest that looks like JFK beating the shit out of a hydra with his bare hands.
A head on photo of a statue that looks like JFK punching a hydra in the face.A side on photo of a statue of a man punching a hydra in the face.
He looks less like JFK from this angle (the man, not the hydra).
Budapest is in the background.

So I decided to use some recently received Amazon vouchers to get even MORE books. This is a nice mix of new authors, authors I've started reading in the last year or 2 and an old favourite.
A 3 by 3 grid of book covers on an amazon kindle app library page
Starting with the top left image, the booms are:
- The Dragon has some complaints by John Wiswell
- Wickhills by Premee Mohamed
- Ode to the Half Broken by Suzanne Palmer
- The Girl with the Thousand Faces by Sunyi Dean
- Engines of Reason by Adrian Tchaikovsky
- The Next Enemy Shall Be the Last by Stewart Hotston
- The Salt Oracle by Lorraine Wilson
- Bat Eater by Kylie Lee Baker
- The Sorceror of the Wildeeps by Kai Ashante Wilson

A screenshot of the amazon kindle deals page with the heading Top rated cookbooks for sale. None of the ones you can see are cookbooks.

So, did someone change the definition of cookbook while I was asleep?
A screenshot of the Kindlebooks deals page.
Underneath the words "Top-rated Cookbooks on sale" are Capital by John Lanchester and Boys Don't Cry by Fiona Scarlett. They are not cookbooks.

I finally got around to framing some art that I've had for a while. I can't remember who did the snake piece (I got it 2-3 years ago at Thought Bubble). The Black & White piece is Tam Lin by Jenn Coutts.
A black and white picture frame around a black and white pen and ink print of Tam Lin being held by his lover while Tam Lin is transforming.A brown picture frame containing a print of a snake silhouette on a white background. Inside the snake shape is a Japanese foreat scene with steps leading up to a stone torii gate.

Guys, surely someone should have said that writing "Im told there were tears" about transporting the Bayeaux tapestry is incredibly ambiguous...

I wont forget stumblinv across this in the Madrid Archaeology Museum. Just the idea that someon wouls say "Do you know what would look nice as a permanent part of my abode? Tens of thousands of pieces of coloured stones making the image of a man getting eaten by a crocodile."
A Roman mosaic showing a man getting eaten by a crocodile.

Might as well... #makeaterriblecomicday
2 square comic panels.
Panel 1 - a badly drawn squinting face, with way too much space around the outside.
Text above the face says "To be or not to be? That is the question.
Panel 2 - a badly drawn pencil. At the bottom are it has 2B written on it.
The text i the top left corner says "...shit."

@scriblit.bsky.social Are you aware that there is a photo of you talking about Cursed Under London in the June 2026 edition of Tesco magazine? With no mention of your name or your book at all, just the photo.
A photo showing part of a page of the "a year of pride" article of the wellbeing section of the June 2026 edition of the free Tesco magazine.

The centre of the photo is Gabby Hutchinson Crouch with a microphone sat next to a small stack of her book Cursed Under London, talking to someone at a book event. There is no text in the article referring to the author or the book. No caption for the photo.

I really got stuck in with reading this month. Six books in 12 days, most of which were great and some were fantastic.
A stack of 6 books on a brown desk, with a magnolia wall in the background.

The books are (from top to bottom):
The Last Contract of Isako by Fonda Lee
Travel Light by Naomi Mitchison
Pagans by James Alistair Henry
Light from Uncommon Stars by Ryka Aoki
Mortedant's Peril bt RJ Barker
Green & Deadly Things by Jenn Lyons

So I've decided to read nothing but physical books for the rest of the month. What should I read next from the "to read" pile?
35 books in a book case.
Only 1 author has 2 books in the pile.
Only 3 books are hardback.
18 of them are by authors who are new to the person who took this photo.

Sorry, I am too lazy to list out evwry single book.

I decided to visit Waylabd's Smithy and, while the book only mentions Wayland briefly, it felt appropriate that I had a copy of @jamesbluecat.bsky.social 's Pagans with me.
In the background is the front of a neolithic barrow called Wayland's Smithy: 4 large standing stones at unfixed distances from each other with a 2-3 foot tall wall of small stones between them.
At the centre is an entrance made up of 3 stones: 2 sides and 1 top.
There are multiple beech trees with green foliage and blue skies.

In front of the barrow is dry light brown soil and a smattering of weeds & grasses.
In the foreground is a tree stump with a paperback copy of Pagans by James Alistair Henry resting on top of it.

I should not be surprised how heavy this is. And yet, I am still surprised by how heavy this is. I definitely wont be reading @aptshadow.bsky.social 's latest while walking around the office's overflow car park on my lunch break...
A signed hardback copy of Adrian Tchaikovsky's Children of Strife on a black salter electronic kitchen scales.
The reading says 971g. The scales are on a dark green place mat with gold palm trees. The place mat is on an Orange table cloth.

There is a Stone Cold Steve Austin SOAP and it feels like the most "buy this as it is MANLY" soap ever. - Leather & sandalwood. - "Featuring beer". - "Smells like whoop ass" Seriously, it's so on the nose it feels like a joke.
A square block lf dark grey soap with some soap suds. It is a tie in product with retired Pro Wrestler Stone Cold Steve Austin.
The text says "smell like whoop ass", "grit: heavy", "Featuring: beer" and "notes: tough leather and sandalwood"

I appreciate that its harder to grow some fruit & veg but I didnt expect Tesco to have to resort to importing tomatoes from Hyrule.

The covers for @aptshadow.bsky.social 's Tyrant Philosophers series are maybe the best in the business right now. Joe Wilson is incredible at having these detailed, eye catching and very distinctive designs that whet your appetite for what is inside.
The cover of the hardback edition of Adrian Tchaikovsky's Pretenders to the Throne of God.
It is a mixture of silver, blue and black with the central image showing soldiers using a cannon to target a city with a lighthouse.
The 4 corners have images of a lizardman in a great coat, an almost skeletal soldier with a great axe over one shoulder, a soldier with an eye patch and a slathering lizard.

People are sharing photos of themselves with wrestlers that they took on Saturday or Sunday. Instead, this weekend, I got something truly unique. I must be the only person on the planet who owns an Italo Calvino novel signed by a Mastermind finalist ( @puropodcast.bsky.social )

I'm off to London for a big weekend of hanging out with friends and watching wrestling. And yes, due to popular demand I am wearing the wrestling shirt that I bought for 180 yen.
