Because art is the dominant narrative in culture now. What we see is what we are. And if you have a bunch of folk swilling champagne and eating oysters telling the world that everything is ok, that's what our narrative will be.

And this leads to the arts being the preserve of the upper and middle classes. People who can afford to compete. People who aren't trying to survive as they make. And why is that an issue?

3. AI is being used as a cheap way to generate ancillary art. That is art and design for things like posters, general marketing, websites etc. This work was previously done by either marketing or artists who do this to supplement their practice with a paying job.

2. AI is being used to replace administrative jobs in organisations. These jobs have long been the work of artists seeking to supplement their practice with some steady pay. This leads to the arts being the preserve of the middle and upper classes.

1. Current models are built on theft. The devaluing of artistic output means artists can't afford to cover expenses. This leads to the arts being the preserve of the middle and upper classes.

The number of arts organisations in the UK using AI is wild. It's also causing massive levels of harm to the sector and yet organisations still persist. Here is what the problem is:

They really should. I can't help think though that even then, it's a terrible idea that relies on a lot of trust from vulnerable and unwell people.

The biggest social media troll is to just reply, "imagine if this was true".

I'm the first appointment of the day. They are already running ten minutes late. No explanation, no apology. You wait less with drug dealers.

Touch screens in GP surgeries seem like such an obvious vector for transmission. So, today's word of the day is "fomite".

The fact that every contestant of every gameshow now starts their funny anecdote with "So..." drives me crazy.

Ready Salted crisps are the best. So much better than the unready salted kind.

Excellent work. Horses definitely have no gag reflex which is why they are so bad at puns.

Strange isn't it, that we seem to be banishing darkness and quietness... Two environmental conditions we need for quality rest and two qualities that have inspired some of the best ideas humanity has ever thought.

Just tried to watch a YouTube gaming video but the Gen-Z making it kept calling it a "Gameboy Advanced". Advanced. Not advance. Advanced. It's not as if it isn't written on the front of the actual fecking machine or anything.

New set of posters, billboards and bus Ads around town telling us how important it is to conserve water... Meanwhile data centres.

Can't argue with the sucking part... It feels a little wild right now, doesn't it? But hey, you don't suck, so that's at least one point for our side. The unsucking underground.

Once had the guy try to push the "sorry you were not in" card through my letterbox whilst I stood on the other side of the door. I opened it, said "good news I'm in!" He had to admit that he had not got the parcel for some reason and it would be delivered the next day instead. Three. Days Later.

He's a slippery careerist that abandoned his wife for the political editor of the Spectator after some serious sexual abuse allegations were brushed under the carpet. He's not the gold standard for morals and ethics he thinks he is, and certainly in no position to comment here.

Interestingly, this massive drop in service coincides with them making delays repay more difficult to access. I'd love to see that financial equation.

It's September and I've yet to get on a train that hasn't been delayed or cancelled this year. Just got turfed off a Carlisle train at Newcastle. No explanation, just "this train is terminating here"... Along with any hopes of making my connection mate. Thanks.

And if you prefer to see some art that is live and happening, come on over to ARC in Stockton today between 2pm and 8pm to see us perform BALANCE, a Durational performance sculpture as part of the Turner on Tees programme.

I think teaching is a vocation more than a job. That is to say that some people are *teachers*, regardless of a classroom setting. That makes a lot of sense to me.

Adam_Y @modernistpunk.com · 25/09/2026
I'll never understand why we treat teachers as such a disposable resource... Or the act of teaching with such disdain. I mean it when I say thanks for your service.

MIMA (Middlesbrough Institute of Modern Art) itself is a wonderful space. A world class gallery and a joy to be in. The toilets were plentiful and clean. Again, mostly used for non-traditional activities, it seems. Either that or lots of folk have colds.

Adam_Y @modernistpunk.com · 24/09/2026
And the Art! Let's not forget about that. Yeah, very competent, nicely presented. Slick. A little inoffensive. A little difficult to hate or argue about. Those that remember the Turner of old remember the controversy. This seems immune to such column inches.

The food served was salmon, chicken and pulled pork. The only veg was potato, which agreed with me on a genetic level.

Ok. It is exactly like you imagine. Some very sharply dressed humans with little joy on their faces listening to speeches that thank everyone but the staff serving them food and drink. The entire place has the energy of cocaine.

Seriously, what do you even mean "a bit"? And why did you feel compelled to call it out as such, when you could have happily moved on with your day? Does it bring you joy and satisfaction to act like that? Do you think it makes things better for anyone else?

Adam_Y @modernistpunk.com · 24/09/2026
No. Just fly paper for wankers like you apparently. "A bit" go on. Off you go.

That resonates. Here's a thing, genuinely. If you ever want to share what you make with someone that won't be judgemental, you can always tap me up. I appreciate the endeavour of learning more than anything.

Despite the fact you carry your phone around with you and use it all the time, isn't it weird that you never see it in your dreams?

Ok, so it isn't powerful enough to *run* an AI, so it's just a device that connects to the internet. You know, like that other one that you carry with you already, but also does things like phone people, browse the internet and doomscroll fucking Facebook.

So many comics these days are just poorly structured essays with characters doing reaction poses like TikTok videos. Real lack of craft and form. Remember. You can actually learn, for free, how to get good at this stuff.

Before Anthony Hopkins’ Dr Lecter in The Silence of the Lambs, Brian Cox played a cannibalistic killer in Mann’s pioneering Red Dragon adaptation
