My first visit to the community larder has resulted in a full veggie drawer, a fair few snacks & frozen goods, and 2.5kg of marzipan in a single block.

I've been trying to convince myself the burnout isn't actively burnouting after my trip but as it turns out I've been fooling myself. Miffed that the tranquility of the undisturbed forest didn't follow me home.

It's been one of those "everyone's having a bad day" days. I was taking part until I got a parcel with cool books I had entirely forgotten I ordered, and then my partner brought me surprise donuts. The horrors persist, but so do the little treats.

Went to the Swedish countryside to escape my troubles and do art, spent most of the time feeding apples to cows.

A photo of a big grassy field with an electric fence, with two giant poplars on either side of the gate. I am facing a small group of cows with calves surrounding the entrance, handing out apples to them from a white bucket.

Relatedly, many people refuse to acknowledge or introspect on how much of A Time they are Having *And* don't want to look at… anything else that might MAKE them acknowledge or introspect, & that turns very easily into "Everyone But Me Is Overreacting About [Thing]" & jeez o man that gets exhausting.

my brain has been kicking my brain's ass this week because I had an idea for an essay after one of the latest AI-in-fiction dramas and then *I missed two other AI-in-fiction dramas* and then an essay came pouring out of me and I think I only got four hours of sleep last night so anyway hold this

$We can be blunt here: the industry does not care, has never cared, and *cannot* care about marginalised writers. But it does care about marginalised *fiction*. It cares about marginalised fiction as if Marginalisation is a genre, and it does so because it is. The industry has, on both ends — from the place of well-meaning white cishet able-bodied gatekeepers who really do want to make space for stories from perspectives they cannot imagine, and from the dens of 'anti-woke' pundits railing against an apparent dilution of art or culture — absolutely created a genre that can only be described as Marginalised Fiction. That is, the literary industry cares deeply about fiction that it can view through a margin-frame: fiction identified first and foremost by its ability to perform the assumed bona fides of marginalised authenticity, at least enough for people on the outside, if not based on rigid definitions of radical art that are policed from both within and without the culture itself. Stories that are Black *because* they're about racist microaggressions, violent neighbourhoods, fractured family lives, and identifiable artifacts of culture. Stories that are non-American *because* they telegraph rural tribal community, strong ancient culture, and tension with the outside world. Stories that are queer *because* they play with grotesque bodies, intense sexual exploration, or the bittersweet revelations of sex as desire or violence. Stories that are disabled *because* they paint images of frail bodies or frayed minds severed from reality through drugs, machinery, or just a lack of access to their own effort. Stories that are immigrant *because* they are about being alienated by language, forging new communications with locals, and fearing the hovering sword of state violence. The industry *loves* that shit.$

Not me getting emotional over my chars #wip

Rough sketch of three friends walking somewhere together. Grief (rat) in the middle, with her arms affectionately around the other two: Saskia (goat) on the left, and Theo (bat) on the right (probably saying something sarcastic). All three are smiling.

saw this post years ago and will never ever forget it. sometimes you need to tend to the place from which you create, before you can create again

Screenshot of a tumblr post by user aureliobooks that reads: My dad likes to call the stretches of time where you’re not creating “dreaming periods” and says that they’re meant to allow you to absorb all of the beauty, life, and inspiration from the things around you so that when you’re able to create again, you will have fanned your spark back into a flame. Sometimes its hard to see those moments as anything but stagnation, but he always says that they’re natural and healthy and needed—things that should be embraced rather than feared.

Ok so one of the reasons I've been hesitant about posting my art here is that I feel an inexplicable need to present inked pieces, and inking is not something I'm good at. But the impermanence of the pencil is a threat? For some reason?

Nothing wrong with frictionless, comforting escapism media where none of the bad stuff exists, if that's your jam or your need, but we all collectively really really REALLY have to get rid of the idea that media that deals with immoral subjects leave an immoral taint on all who engage with it.

A doodle of Symmetry Silkmoth! I adore the character designs in the Grimoire games.

A pen & pencil drawing of the head of a girl with a long head, big eyes with black eyeliner, and prominent ears (all a little asymmetrical), plus a little triangular black hat on her head. She's wearing a small smile.
