But, needless to say, that is not a university: that’s a taxpayer-subsidized engine for private capital accumulation that retains the external form of a university —a beloved brand, taken over by private equity, that’s now different & worse, but keeps the old name—which is of course the whole point.

Interesting that democrats would be wrong to bring universities "to heel" on wokeness. The obvious implication here is that fascism is a natural. State that resistance to fascism is the aberration

What's in the works in Congress, Rep. Pressley in terms of abolishing ICE. Is there legislation ready to go if Dems win the Presidency in 2028? Is Congress starting to hold hearings to discuss HOW ICE will be abolished? How will the public be marshaled?

if you are a Dem who for whatever reason does not feel comfortable actively defending trans rights (which you should) you have two good response options: 1. ignore it! just keep running ads about the economy 2. “I am focused on your pocketbook, my opponent is focused on children’s genitals”

So this week we've learned: 1) The AI goons CONFESSED they were committing the biggest theft in history. 2) The data centers really are sucking up all the energy during an energy shock. 3) AI almost caused a World War.

Oh, this is a useful set of statistics. You can use it to assess just what sort of numbers of JOBS the Government means when it says we need the data centres in Ireland for the JOBS. You’d create more employment running a small chain of centras.

The whole speech is good, but this part in particular is particularly relevant now. www.trumanlibrary.gov/library/publ...
A screenshot of a section of the linked speech by former President Harry Truman:

I've seen it happen time after time. When the Democratic candidate allows himself to be put on the defensive and starts apologizing for the New Deal and the fair Deal, and says he really doesn't believe in them, he is sure to lose. The people don't want a phony Democrat. If it's a choice between a genuine Republican, and a Republican in Democratic clothing, the people will choose the genuine article, every time; that is, they will take a Republican before they will a phony Democrat, and I don't want any phony Democratic candidates in this campaign.

But when a Democratic candidate goes out and explains what the New Deal and fair Deal really are--when he stands up like a man and puts the issues before the people--then Democrats can win, even in places where they have never won before. It has been proven time and again.
We are getting a lot of suggestions to the effect that we ought to water down our platform and abandon parts of our program. These, my friends, are Trojan horse suggestions. I have been in politics for over 30 years, and I know what I am talking about, and I believe I know something about the business. One thing I am sure of: never, never throw away a winning program.
This is so elementary that I suspect the people handing out this advice are not really well-wishers of the Democratic Party.

New — I wrote about this weird thing where people within the Republican party keep being exposed as Nazis and the party then tries to claim each one is an aberration. The facts, as I lay out here, indicate otherwise:

Communism, in the president’s hyperbolic telling, is a graver threat to the country than the Pearl Harbor or 9/11 attacks were. Whether this midterm strategy works is an open question.

If you want to be inoculated against the doom-vertising machine, I think this book does it extremely well. The talk of extinction, the pleas to government for guidance while simultaneously lobbying against regulation, it’s all part of a gambit. And we are not the target audience.
