Greenland fishermen want to cull 1,000 sharks that can live over 400 years and only start to reproduce at the age of 150 with $45 per heart bounty The plan has been dropped but there is momentum growing to kill the sharks Absolute evil - spread the word nypost.com/2026/10/07/w...

Greenland sharks becomes sexually mature at the old age of 150 and are believed to gestate thier young for over a decade — meaning populations can take an extremely long time to recover.

Couldn't agree more Darryl, seems like many moons ago, having chat with Lewy on the inter island boat returning from St Martin's to St Mary's on Scilly when he mentioned this work. Looking forward to it. He's a fantastic artist.

A few nice examples of Grass Poly along the East shore of the lower pond on the 'Rushy'. Viewable from the Rushy Pen Hide with bins, better with a scope.

Grass Poly is always viewable from Rushy Hide and Peng Obs but it's going over, lots of goose traffic (footfall) at night. It's also in the grounds in hollows and ruts but may be dessicated after the summer we've had.

Ornithological giant and a gentleman. The New Grounds/Slimbridge recording area certainly benefitted from DIMW's focus and attention. Inspirational man.

A perk of annual scrape management work is being able getting out there, however brief. Both Mudwort Limosella aquatica and Grass Poly Lythrum hyssopifolia continue to grow on the scrapes managed for waders. #WWTSlimbridgeSightings #wildflowers

Looks like the juvenile Pectoral Sandpiper relocated from WWT Slimbridge to Saul Warth, at least for now. MLK spotted it among the small waders whilst we were sifting through the rather nervous and flighty flock. Lovely to have time to enjoy watching it at leisure on a day off. #GlosBirds

So focused on getting news of Pectoral Sandpiper out, forgot all about the Guillemot that was on the Severn off the Dumbles earlier. If it's the same long stayer, this is notable, it must be finding food. #GlosBirds #WWTSlimbridgeSightings

Zero counts count! 🦸‍♀️ With the dry weather that much of the UK has experienced this summer, many of our wetland sites have dried up. We ask that counters still continue visiting dried up WeBS sites, as counts with zero birds is still incredibly important data. #zerohero

A simple solution and something other wind farms should trial to see if it works for other high risk species like Geese as well. If so a case for wider adoption by the industry

I didn't used to expect ticks until May but had huge numbers on me in Cambs woodland this weekend. It's been -2C at night and only 13C by day. This hazard for early spring fieldwork is pretty new, not something I worried about in March. Affects fieldwork approach and precautions needed. #BeTickAware
