Every time I start a new story, I believe it is the best one I've ever come up with - until the next one. I think a creative needs this. It's a necessary delusion that carries the idea to completion, enabling it to be finished. If you don't believe in what you are creating then who will it? #write

The Facial Expressions of Tethys by artist Julius von Bismarck. A suspended high-sea buoy that moves in real time. Sensors on a twin buoy out in the Atlantic Ocean send live satellite data to motors inside the museum. This makes the indoor buoy copy the exact, real-time movements of the ocean waves.

I’ll never be as good of a writer as my daughter. She has a true gift. It doesn’t mean I won’t write. This kind of thing calls to you. I’m just excited to see what we both create.

Wow. That was an EPIC collapse of the Green Bay #packers. They did everything they could to give Minnesota the win. This is going to be very rough year for GB. Just. Holy cow that was awful. Welp. Guess I’ll go work on painting some minis tonight! Epic dnd game next week.

Drove a 911 GT3 yesterday on the track. 130 on the straightaway. All I wanted to do was ‘test drive’ a 911 at the dealership but my family decided to get me 3 laps with this badass machine. I don’t even watch racing. 15 out of 10. Would do this again. And again. www.thextremexperience.com

Does anyone else think it was idiotic to make Arizona central to chip manufacturing. I get tax breaks but … you need water. Right? Arizona is a desert. Climate change anyone? This might be the most obvious dumb move in support of shareholders instant gratification I can think of.

The simple fact that #Callaway / #GoodGolf even shoot that ad AND approved it shows how mindlessly blind our society is to domestic violence. Also: it solidifies that I really never want to #golf. I see too much of the cocky, drinking BS that is networking by ‘golfers’ in the name of business.

Just finished the novel ‘erasure’’ My education is woefully inadequate for me to fully appreciate this novel. This is both infuriating (rage induced internal tantrum at how obtuse this story is to my small brain) and humbling (damn this block of text is smart)! This is a great book.

One of my all-time favorite rules, from Pea Ridge (1980). The designer's great-great-grandfather fought in the battle, and if his unit takes damage you roll a die to see if he survives. If he dies, the designer is never born, and the game doesn't exist, and so automatically ends in a draw.

Trimmed 7 pages from the screenplay. Sharpening the red quill to find 3 more. Turning this into a lean mean narration machine … or just following the mob advice of the internet to get the damn thing under 110 pages. Will I ever finish? Eh. Probably? Maybe? Good thing I have an office gig!

I often see a trailer for a movie or tv show that based on the book and decide to just read the book instead. I just ripped through ‘Queens Gambit’. Never thought I’d read (or enjoy) a book about a chess genus. And from what I hear - yes, it’s better than the show.

Every time I hear how other people are using #AI I feel empty and depressed. We’re offloading discovery. If you have something do everything for you what are you doing? Are we learning anymore? What people once retained in their mind is now lost to 0’s and 1’s. What happens if the plug is pulled?

Lest anyone accuse me of bargaining in bad faith here, let me start with this admission: I don't think AI is intelligent; nor do I think that the current (admittedly impressive) statistical techniques will lead to intelligence. 1/
A killer 1940s robot zapping two large domes with eye-lasers; trapped under the domes are two children, taken from 1910s photos of child laborers; one, a little girl in a straw hat, is holding two heavy buckets. The other, a newsie with a shoulder bag, is picking his nose. The background is the collapsing pillars seen in Dore's engraving of The Death of Solomon.

It's hard to know yourself from the inside. Astronomers are still figuring out what our home galaxy looks like; a new study reveals updated locations for the Milky Way's spiral arms. This is where we are. 🧪🔭 www.esa.int/Science_Expl...
This artist’s impression depicts the structure of our galaxy, the Milky Way, based on data from ESA's Gaia and illustrates how scientists have revised the position of its outer arms thanks to observations from ESA's XMM-Newton and NASA's Chandra.

The two X-ray telescopes have spotted the aftermath of three bright cosmic explosions echoing through the outer spiral arms of our galaxy. By measuring the distance to these echoes, a research team found that the outer arms are up to 10% further away than we thought.

It's hard to describe how challenging it is to detect air on a planet 49 light years from Earth. Imagine figuring out how to collect these data...then to look at these results and realize, "I see traces of a helium atmosphere!" But they did it. Full paper: 🔭🧪 www.science.org/content/arti...

Gray points are all observed spectra, and black points have been binned by a factor of three (17 min). The pink shaded regions indicate the data used to construct the stellar template.
