Bo Byram is attending to a family matter and will not play tonight. Wish him well in dealing with that.

Potential pending UFA/trade targets I'll be keeping an eye on for Hawks this year: D: Artem Zub, Jalen Chatfield, Vince Dunn C: Pavel Zacha W: Alex DeBrincat, Jared McCann Hughes/Robertson/Kucherov are pipe dreams, but worth taking a run. The guys above are more attainable to help raise the floor.

If the answers aren't the Cubs and as much as it takes to get the deal done before the lockout then next season may be a painful one for Chicago fans.

Hawks thoughts: Games like these two are still going to happen. Given the opening week schedule I thought this was possible but its still disheartening. Hawks aren't good. Nobody should've expected good. Playoffs can be a fun stretch goal, but the real target is/should be climbing out of bottom 5.

It's a good idea, with a good director, but its heavily handicapped by one of the most boring protagonists imaginable. The vampire side characters are fun though, and that's all anyone remembers from the movie. I think most people who look back fondly on it forget who most of the story is focused on

Hawks were going to be challenged by going on the road to start the year and play 2 of the 5 best teams in the Western Conference, both in their home openers. I wasn't expecting wins. But they are getting run out of the building in both games.

Rinzel whiffs on a clearing opportunity, turns it over, and it ends up in the back of the goal. Hawks down 2-0

The next time the Hawks complete 3 crisp, accurate passes in a row will be the first time.

Another brutal start for the Hawks. Barely touch the puck the opening five minutes.

Buried in here Kane makes a good hockey point. Kane is puck dominant (+Bedard/Byram). They hold it to make plays, maintain possession. Kantserov is a off puck (+Frondell/Lardis). They're best getting the puck, moving it quick, then moving themselves to get open for return pass or rebound/retrieval.

The fact that a not 100% 35 year old SP was the best option the Cubs felt that had to start a do or die playoff game is a perfect summation of this season.

I walk basically everywhere in Seattle but I have many privileges: 1) Male w/no disabilties so walking alone is safe(r) and no issue climbing hills, etc 3) No daily commute (WFH) 4) No partner/kids to rush to school/events/appts/etc 5) Condo has dirt cheap parking so can keep my car for longer treks

I understand this sentiment, but imagine what it was like for Cubs fans who lived in the 40 years between the end of WW2 and 1984. We're lucky.

Sure, some frustrating moments this season, but all in all I enjoyed the ride of this 2026 Cubs season. Always appreciate a playoff season. There'll be some changes next season, especially pitching, and hopefully it addresses some shortcomings and Cubs will return to the postseason in better health

Cubs felt like a team of destiny at times. Despite injuries had NL best record early until a bad May cold streak. Despite mounting injuries they battled back, led WC race most of the way, added pitching at TDL with a handful of rehabbing pitchers hopeful to return. But momentum died in September...

Good luck San Diego fans. You're one of the fanbases I'll be rooting for the rest of the way. If my team isn't going to win then I want a team that has never won to gift their fans a championship.

No reason to overreact to 2 games after the offense was the best in baseball over the course of a full season. Yes, they've had frustrating team wide slumps, but those affect every team. We do however have an entire season sample size of this pitching staff being shit and constantly giving up HR.

Hawks are moving Kane to Frondell's line. Finally. No fucking idea why that took so long. Obviously no guarantee it will work, but only giving Frondell wingers that are finishers like him, which is all they've ever given him, probably won't work. Need someone on the line who can make East-West pass.

Michael Ernst @mjernst.bsky.social · 30/09/2026
Hawks top 9 forwards need to forecheck and backcheck way harder. Just nowhere near enough energy. Nowhere near enough puck pressure. Frondell has looked like he's sleepwalking on the ice. His line was the worst in preseason and opening night. Hawks can't outskill many teams. Need to outwork them.

All 3 homers Boyd has allowed tonight have been on his changeup. He had surrendered 6 home runs off his changeup in the regular season, his 2nd most used pitch (546 thrown).

Disappointing 1st period for Hawks. More of what we saw in preseason. Sloppy penalties. Off target passing. Fumbling pucks. Leading to little puck possession.

Of course the Cubs pitching staff had to give up a homer on the first pitch of the postseason. Had to let us know there is going to be no difference between regular season and playoff results.

2026-27 Blackhawks thoughts: Outside of a healthy return and big season from Bedard, they need big seasons from Byram and Kantserov. If this team wants to take the big step they are talking about them they have to score more. A lot more. Hawks need: Byram 12+ G, 55+ P Kantserov 25+ G, 60+ P

I have no idea if Sam Roush will ever be a good NFL player. I will say that most rookie TE suck so being bad now does not indicate he will remain that way. But I do know that because his first impression has been so poor a segment of the Bears fanbase will never change their opinion of him.
