Joining WGR 550 in moments talking pucks

After using LTIR cap relief with Lundestrom, the Soucy signing still leaves the #CBJ very little room under the $104 million cap ceiling. They've only got $150,000 in cap space now, which could make things interesting trying to recall AHL help for injuries that aren't long-term.

Conor Sheary’s healthy appearance at practice today was a sign that he was headed to waivers and now he is. He’s headed to Rochester if he clears.

080

They've done it before in spurts in-game. Ruff today mentioned how Norris gives them someone to win draws on the left side and slide Thompson to the wing. It's a team with roughly 8 centers, you're going to see this kind of thing.

Lindy Ruff said Olen Zellweger is still day-to-day, Mattias Samuelsson is skating and may practice tomorrow (!!). Conor Timmins with a lower-body issue, no timeline for him yet, but is related to the twist-up and fall against Pittsburgh.

One trade down... how many more to go? The waiting list shortens just a bit

Brain behaving poorly. Unwelcome.

That Leafs defense still deeply questionable

Sabres season starting roster is here

2182

Would be mildly amusing if the Leafs-Jackets deal doesn’t come together after all this

4120

Leafs gonna have to pay Marchenko what, 14-16 million a year on an extension? Neat!

2150

Sabres made no waiver claims. No goalies added so you have to imagine Luukkonen’s tweak wasn’t serious (but worth keeping an eye on nonetheless). Roster due at 5 pm ET. They’ve got enough injured guys to get to 23 without getting crazy.

Football and a beverage helped take my mind off how surreal this evening turned, but now I have neither of those things and now I’m thinking of tonight’s events and at a total loss.

1150

The ending of this is exhausting and obnoxious

I am at the celebration of Andy Williams’ life in Buffalo tonight and cannot believe the news of PAC. My god

Too bad 1994 Michael Irvin never got to play a game in Brazil

Watched "Neil Peart: No One's Disciple" this morning and as delightful as it was, it was sad as well. Still, wonderful to see Chad Smith, Danny Carey, Stewart Copeland and Gavin Harrison pay tribute to the legend. Was also struck by how similar Chad Smith and Will Ferrell look alike.

Happy to see Logan Stanley land with the Isles. Hoping to see him do well there.

Jack Rathbone who did not play for the Amerks tonight is out week-to-week with a lower body injury according to Mike Leone. He mentioned he’d be out a little while but clarified the severity a little bit.

Not us here scanning the waiver wire for goalies postgame (Remi Poirier) just in case things get weird(er)

Lindy Ruff said Luukkonen tweaked something lower body so they got him out of there. TBD on him. Lyon will miss a few days with his issue. Kulich skated this morning and is feeling ok.

1170

Sidney Crosby missed an empty net from distance, but moments later Nick Robertson doesn't from in close after a Rakell feed to make it 3-1

040

There's your power play goal, gang. Ryan McLeod tees it up from the circle to make it 2-1

070

Colten Ellis into the game 3:47 into the third period. Unsure if planned or not

040

An odd preseason game. There's some trying and many attempts at executing rushes and situational play, but also guys don't want to push things *too* hard. It's 2-0 Pens after two. Bryan Rust didn't play in the final 10 minutes of the 2nd.

050

Rickard Rakell scores on a Nick Robertson rebound but the Sabres are challenging for offside. We love this.

241

Malkin appeared to score on a rebound of a Girard slapper, but it was waved off immediately, but after the officials conferred, it's called a goal. 3-0 Pens

130

Some line tweaking in the preseason. Neat. Benson-Östlund-Thompson Doan-Norris-Quinn Krebs-McLeod-Helenius Kozak-Carrick-Malenstyn

070

Ville Koivunen on a rebound of a wraparound attempt makes it 2-0 Pens. Pittsburgh with two goals on four shots in the first 11 or so minutes.

040

Sidney Crosby breaking out the clapper on a break-in is a thing of beauty. Luukkonen did everything but stop it as Crosby found a spot under his elbow. Tip your cap. 1-0 Pens

050

Tyson Kozak standing next to Louis Crevier during the anthem bringing back Nathan Gerbe next to Zdeno Chara memories

Light on hits -- think of it like an All-Star game

180

A pair of lineups filled with NHL players including Sidney Crosby and Evgeni Malkin for Pittsburgh. Lindy Ruff said yesterday he was thinking this would be more of a "union game" today. That's a fair expectation.
