You know what I dislike most about games like BG? Feeling like I need to save more often, and loading saves.

Maybe it's good that he learned that lesson early. Otherwise he'd be pushing the envelope until he finally saw consequences. 😄

As a Cats fan, it now looks like we might have to beat Blues, Freo at home, Lions at home, then Hawks. Individually, I rate us a good chance in each. All four now looks very tough.

Australian science prize awarded to researcher studying memory accuracy of domestic violence survivors
Helen Paterson’s work on advancing how police and courts understand memory is recognised in prestigious Eureka prizes * Get our breaking news email, free app or daily news podcast Memory is an imperfect thing: research shows that recollections of single events – a purse being snatched, say – differ to those about repeated or ongoing events, such as incidents of domestic and family violence. “What our research shows is that compared to a single-event witness, a repeated-event witness tends to report more gist-like details, the overall details of what typically would happen, and the things that remain constant between the episodes,” said Helen Paterson, an associate professor in forensic psychology at the University of Sydney. We also had a very tame one and honestly, I was thankful for it. It's like being invited to a Buck's night and immediately hoping it's not going to be something I want to excuse myself from.

First one is obviously very wood focused. The priorities start changing. Think I only ever won the first 3. I'll have to check my stats later.

Turn based. The numbers are mostly exposed, so pretty board game adjacent. Eats up a lot of time though. You usually have a pretty good idea if you're going to win a long time before the end. I enjoy it playing it out but totally understand others getting bored.

Michael Dart @mjdart.bsky.social · 12/08/2026
It's not really at its peak right now. I usually put a lot of time into every second one. It's unfortunately also not cheap. Although old ones often go very cheap.

I haven't played much solo lately. But probably only because I'm enjoying Civ again. And YARG.

Michael Dart @mjdart.bsky.social · 11/08/2026
Hmmm. I would try at least once. But yeah, I get defaulting to solo. Otherwise it just feels like buying a wish.

CHICKEN MYSTERY: I am chicken-sitting for neighbors. All 4 hens are in the coop and have been continuously in the run all day. There was only 1 egg when I checked today (normally 2-3). And now: I just found an egg in *my* garden, ~50 feet from the coop. HOW?? Who am I likely dealing with here?

Over the weekend, my kids and I played a ton of Catan, and after decades of service, we decided to retire our beloved set. Here's a little appreciation thread for objects of play and their gradual decay 🧵

We haven't finished them yet. They're kind of going slowly. 😄 If I think about it being fruity then it tastes a bit more like apple flavouring.

I was a little worried the references might be too overt. But I think you balanced it pretty well. Also thought you did a great job with varying up the tone while keeping to the script order which was a nice touch. 'Witch' did a great job there. Well done!

I listened to the album on my walk today. I particularly enjoyed the vocal parts. They did some unexpected and interesting things. My favourite line was "only drop by for a spell".

@gil.hova.net My friend @the1ben.bsky.social recently bought the Allplay reprint of The Networks, and I just wanted to let you know that people are really enjoying it. He's gone back and got expansions now. He'd been looking for a copy for a few years.

@amikebloomtype.bsky.social Question that struck me from your interview with Simon when he talks about Lottie "calling a spade a f'ing shovel"... Can you recall what your impression of Australians was from before you watched Survivor? Probably difficult to answer, but how does that compare to now?

@shannongaitz.bsky.social To answer your question from the pod, I am enjoying s50 but mostly on the strength of the cast and the weight of their histories. I'm sure the strategy is there but it's stifled by the game design and overshadowed by production.

It's an interesting problem. I was trying to translate this to AFL in Australia but the Gauntlet solution is not really equivalent due to the break required between games (usually 6 days or more).

For all the talk of redemption, his will come in a future season when he's a few years older and wiser. He knows what he needs to work on now. Come back a little more assured. It's a longer arc! They would definitely cast that. #survivorau
