I don’t think I’m ever going to get the appeal of pivoting to video for podcasts. I’ve been listening to podcasts for 20 years, and never once have I thought, my God, I need to SEE these people! I’m on a walk or doing the dishes, I don’t need video.

Thought of @sickoscommittee.org at the Melbourne NFL game yesterday - of course they had a punting competition

At a busy event at the Melbourne NFL game, there’s a competition booth set up to ‘kick like an Aussie punter’ trying to punt a ball through various holes, with holes that say ‘good punt’, ‘elite punt’ etc

My 3 main allegiances in this World Cup are Holland, England, and Australia. Great start to the campaign by the Socceroos today #AusTur #FIFAWorldCup

My partner and I wearing dark green Australia shirts in front of the tv, with Australia vs Turkey playing.

Just got yelled at by a young woman in a car, for being in a car turning lane on my bike (there’s no other way for a bike to turn at that intersection). I’ve been seeing more people cycling in cairns lately but a stark reminder that the carbrains are still alive and well

I feel like we don’t talk about Victor Wembanyama’s full name enough

Victor Nonga Wembanyama-de Fautereau-Vassel was born on 4 January 2004, in Le Chesnay, in the Paris region. His father, Félix, was born in Belgium and is of Congolese origin. He was a track and field athlete who competed in the high jump, long jump and triple jump. Félix acquired French nationality by naturalisation on 10 February 2003. Victor's mother, Élodie de Fautereau, is a French basketball coach and former player.

I know that the American Music Awards are not a major award show, but it seems pretty insane to me to have a ‘song of the summer’ category before the American summer… the show is in May

Song of the Summer (new category) nominees:
Alex Warren ‘Fever Dream’
Bella Kay ‘iloveitiloveitiloveit’
BTS ‘Swim’
Ella Langley ‘Choosin’ Texas’
Harry Styles ’American Girls’
Noah Kahan ‘The Great Divide’
PinkPantheress, Zara Larsson ‘Stateside’
Sombr ‘Homewrecker’
Tame Impala, Jennie ‘Dracula’
Taylor Swift ‘Elizabeth Taylor’

Snagged tickets for the NFL Australia game after being 65,000th in the queue - despite joining right when the waiting room opened! Got tickets at midfield in the second row of the lower bowl, but they’re ’restricted view’ because of how far the NFL field will be from the stands 🫠 still $630 each…

This past November, Maastricht quietly introduced the Netherlands' first “fietszone” or bicycle-priority zone, which takes the concept of “fietsstraten”—streets where cars are treated as guests—and applies it across the entire city centre (within the ring roads) rather than along a single corridor.🧵
