Really interesting piece by neuroscientist Bala Subramaniam on why our brains need pop concerts. www.theguardian.com/commentisfre...

The spaces that reliably produce collective belonging deserve to be treated as public health assets. The dancefloor, for all its apparent frivolity, may be doing more for community health than we have the measurement tools to capture. These spaces do something that no app, no algorithm and no prescription can replicate. They return us, briefly, to something primal, prehistoric and necessary. That is worth protecting.

RIP David Hockney. Really interesting piece on his 'joiners' – photo collages he made in the early 80s. "A photograph is... a fraction of a second, frozen, so the moment you’ve looked at it...you’re looking at it for far more than the camera did." blog.scienceandmediamuseum.org.uk/david-hockne...

Last night I saw Folk Bitch Trio at Bristol's Exchange, over from Australia on the last night of their short UK tour. Absolutely beautiful harmonies backed by two guitars. Felt very special. It was @maki-kim.bsky.social who first brought them to my attention at the end of 2024. Thanks Maki! ❤️

Black and white photo of three women on a small stage, all singing. One is playing a semi-acoustic guitar, another an acoustic guitar.

Thinking of David Bowie on what would have been his birthday, and on the 10th anniversary of Blackstar. Forever missed ❤️⚡️★ Photo: Kevin Cummins, London, November 1995

Colour photo portrait of David Bowie in his late 40s. The lighting and black background make just his face and hands visible. His head is tilted slightly with his chin on one hand and he's looking straight at the camera.

Saw Bill Ryder-Jones again in Bristol last night. Last night of the tour and he was in particularly good form, accompanied by the equally talented Evelyn Halls on cello and backing vocals. Brooke Bentham was the wonderful support. Do love a seated gig these days 😄❤️

Black and white photo of two musicians seated on a stage, with a few heads of people in the audience silhouetted in front. A woman is playing the cello. A man is playing a semi-acoustic guitar and looking towards the cellist. The top of an acoustic guitar in its stand can be seen in the gap between the musicians.
