Capital punishment is already barbaric. Even the proposal to live stream it publicly is absolutely monstrous. My hope is that history will not have long to wait: even if it does not go ahead, impeaching Hegseth should be top of the 120th Congress's to do list.

Survation: NEW: ‘Where will the public land on Andy Burnham’s Triple Lock changes and National Care Service plans?’1/

📢 The PM'S promise to amend the triple lock next parliament is good news for the public finances, and for the vulnerable pensioners who lose far more from a broken care system than they gain from a random ratchet on their pension ⤵️
Ruth Curtice, Chief Executive of the Resolution Foundation, said:
“The triple lock is a terribly designed policy that has cost far more than originally anticipated and yet failed to reduce pensioner poverty. The Prime Minister has been under pressure to show that he can take tough decisions on public spending – and scrapping the triple lock is a good way to demonstrate that.
“Recycling the savings from scrapping the triple lock into social care will especially help vulnerable pensioners who stand to lose far from a broken care system than they gain from a random ratchet on how the State Pension is increased.”

If (and it is a massive "if") the fallout from today is Labour rising rapidly to mid 30s or higher, then he might go early. But I'm still 99% sure it'll be spring '29 even with a positive response.

An inconvenient truth for the racists and xenophobes. Low birth rate in the UK inevitably means fewer young supporting ever more older people. Immigration brings in young people and eases the problem. Without it, everyone must work longer.

He says very clearly "even in shallow waters, people can drown." He goes on to say that the French police have had specific training on when it is appropriate and safe to put inflatable boats out of commission by slashing them.

Hmm, I don't think Davis was asking if the authorities should be puncturing refugee boats with knives, more should they be patroling and turning them back. But it's still a pretty shitty state of affairs when a BBC presenter feels the need to legitimise far right talking points in any way.

More confident than I have been for some time that Farage will never be Prime Minister.
A series of graphs from a YouGov poll that shows that in any match up where only two parties have a chance to win a constituency, Reform would lose to all other parties.
