hey #portfolioday - besides drawing fantasy/scifi comics with anthro characters, I also draw characters for custom tabletop RPG campaigns. A few examples!

picking at this 4 page one-off comic again. was procrastinating because 'giant background!' but i think i'm just gonna use a reference photo of a concert i went to in 2007.

like i know i have to do stuff at work. i know it. i knowwwwww it but the burnout from working a day job since 2008 permeates me so deeply that i can't make myself work even nearly as hard as i know i should. i feel like i'm on the edge of a cliff and i'm just too tired to lean back off.

i just... don't... care.... about a lot of these AI-automated tasks at work. i dont want the ai to do it for me.......

maybe someday the AI bubble will pop and people like me who still know how to do things manually won't be so worried about job security, but i've been waiting for that for like 5 years now. just gonna keep tortoising for now....

honestly so much of my internal strife nowadays is career related. i feel like the tortoise coding my work emails in html, hand-coding my neocities site, playing by the old ppc/seo rules, while everyone on linkedin is a hare 'hyperscaling with ai'.

it took me that long to realize that i wasn't weird, i was creative, and other normal people are just boring who have a really hard time thinking outside of the box. i found some good weird artists friends in high school and things got better slowly.

I was trying to play with another girl, maybe 2nd grade? i don't remember what I said, but i remember her making a face and going, 'you're weird.' i felt shitty about it until i was about 11 and i heard someone say 'all artists are weird' and suddenly something clicked. i was an ARTIST.

Three panel comic. Panel 1: a chimpanzee in an enclosure is sitting on the ground and painting abstract streaks of color on a canvas lying in the grass. Panel 2: a couple is standing outside the enclosure, looking in. The girl says about the painting chimpanzee, “aww, that’s cute.” Panel 3: the chimpanzee is alone in his dimly lit studio, head in hands, holding a lit cigarette. He looks completely dejected, feeling misunderstood. There is a pair of glasses, a glass of whisky, crumpled paper, and an unfinished painting laid out on the desk in front of him. The walls and floor space of his studio are covered in his abstract paintings on canvases and paper. There is also a marble sculpture of a banana beside him.
