Great example of the effectiveness of vaccination. In 1992, Norway introduced vaccination against Haemophilus influenzae and the next year under seven disease burden dropped massively. Yesterday at the Norwegian public health institute annual microbial genomics meeting. Talk by Dagfinn Skaare.

First frost of the season and didn't really fancy doing my usual run. The views were worth it though.
View over a lake through the trees with a rising sun in the distance. It's autumn but we had the first frost of the season so it looks chilly. Golden brown colours.

No, it's not a midlife crisis, I've had that already.

'In space no one can hear you scream' says Alien. It seems that this also applies to Mastodon and BlueSky? Unlike the old Twitter, there is very little interaction with messages. Maybe it's better to write to (local) newspapers and/or contact MPs if you want to make a difference?

Explain this to the taxpayers and convince politicians about the obscenity that is the open access publishing business model: "The scientific community of the US, China, UK, France, Netherlands, and Norway pays over $2 billion each year to a dozen publishers to publish their work with open access"

View over the sea after a half marathon that didn't go too well. Nice and relaxing to see the sea like this.

A first for me, AI-generated audio summary of a paper we just submitted to @biorxiv-evobio.bsky.social. Quite good, one mistake but not too bad overall: sciencecast.org/casts/2ci64j... Link to the manuscript: www.biorxiv.org/content/10.1...

My continued frustration with this DuoLingo language app. Trying to learn Norwegian but criticising my English. It is possible of course that my English is poor but is 'You first have to dial six' or 'You have to dial six first ' incorrect? The suggested 'You have to first dial six' seems ugly?

The "What's up?" default when reposting seems a good question I think. Not about your post or your brother's but about the non existing word.

Visited my collaborators at the Statens Serum Institut in beautiful Copenhagen. Obviously I need to check out Nyhavn. The colours in the morning sun have a kind of Turner-esque feel.

Introduce yourself with some jobs you have done apart from what you do now: - warehouse worker, - sewage plant worker, - department store sales, - postman (I really enjoyed that to be honest).
