I enjoyed it! It's different from the books but in a way that I felt clearly respects the original - less a one-to-one adaptation and more GDT showing what the story meant to him. Also, it's absolutely gorgeous.

tbh its bc two different genres are trying to wrestle for the one label. I love cyberpunk ttrpgs for their camp, i think they're fun, i think 2077 works great as an action game for that universe, but i think that camp sometimes undermines the speculative + political elements of the genre.

that's probably more to do with me being picky about my cyberpunk, honestly. I feel like 2077 really missed the mark for me and picked up too many of the genre's bad habits in service to its aesthetics. wd2 isnt perfect by any means, but i like what they were trying to do with it.

For all its Ubisoft-isms, Watch_Dogs 2 is a fantastic game with a ton of heart, and is genuinely the closest I think any AAA studio will capturing the fun of counterculture. If I was brave, I'd say its a better cyberpunk game than Cyberpunk 2077. Go play it.
