Can’t imagine making my whole brand Rape Defender Who Doesn’t Shower but then again I’m not a disgusting freak motivated by deep hatred of women and an addiction to contrarianism ¯\_(ツ)_/¯

it is very cool (read: very not cool) that "What if the entire regional economy immediately exploded?" is a ballot measure in the bay area because we are in the 'touching the hot stove' era of american history. if you live in the bay area you should vote for the regional transit measure.
The ballot initiative would raise the sales tax rate by 0.5 percentage points in San Mateo, Santa Clara, Contra Costa and Alameda counties and by 1 percentage point in San Francisco, and is expected to generate roughly $980 million annually for the next 14 years to sustain bus, train, metro and ferry lines.

Many of the region’s transit agencies have already proposed contingency plans if the measure fails. BART said it would likely have to end service at 9 p.m. instead of at midnight, reduce train frequencies to 30 minutes and move from five-line to three-line service outside of peak commute hours. Caltrain has proposed eliminating weekend services, closing more than a third of stations and ending operations around 9 p.m. instead of 1 a.m. AC Transit is looking at reducing service by 16%, while Muni said it could eliminate up to 20 routes, cut service by at least 30% and end regular evening service.

The fiscal cliff facing transit agencies was triggered by the decline in ridership due to the pandemic and hit agencies heavily dependent on fare revenues, like BART, the hardest.SPUR, a nonprofit policy think tank sponsoring the measure, released a report last month that found that if the measure and San Francisco’s Proposition H fail, traffic delays on the Bay Bridge could increase by 33 minutes heading west in the morning and 43 minutes heading east in the evening. Caldecott Tunnel traffic could see delays of an additional 20 minutes in the morning and 27 minutes during the evening commute. Congestion could also worsen along Interstate 580, Interstate 680 and U.S. 101, the report found.

the Ohio Democratic party is purging its ranks by forcing trans people to either resign or go along with politicians who threaten their existence and calling a pride group an "unwelcoming distraction." If we're just a distraction, then win without our votes and get rid of the fake "pride" orgs 👍🏾

There are new and specific numbers in this story, so it’s worth reading. I continue to resent the lack of credit to Nick Schwellenbach at @pogo.org, Dan Friedman at @motherjones.com, and me, who have previously reported every other aspect of this story, including that the sale prices were very high.

campus police exist to protect universities from real police investigations and the bad press that accompanies them. they are public relations with guns. their purpose is to make the story go away so the university avoids a headache, not to secure justice for crime victims.

I was raped 13 years ago and I still carry the wound with me daily. It was nowhere near as bad as what happened to Jane Doe at Cornell and I’m still struggling to work through it. I cannot even imagine the pain this woman is living with nor the incredible strength to confront her rapists.

like i say every time this comes up, the term for what awaits survivors who go through the official system (cops, rape kit at the hospital, the hell of a trial where you as the victim get to be cross examined by yr rapist’s defense) is called “the second rape”

I’m frustrated and upset and disgusted. Misogyny is so ingrained in our culture that there has never been a real reckoning with mass complicity in sexual violence, especially against women.

Idk maybe that’s one of the reasons I became an anarchist. What good is a hierarchy when those who violate the social contract are constantly placed atop it? What good are laws that aren’t applied evenly? How can we have accountability when it is only weaponized against the marginalized?

Everyone is on board for “kill your local rapist” until it’s their disgusting homie who couldn’t keep his hands to himself. And perpetrators don’t get so much as a slap on the wrist, with plenty getting positions of power as cops and politicians and lawyers.

I’m not really sure what my point in writing this is. Every time a high profile case like this emerges, survivors everywhere have to relive the worst moments of our lives. I have so much empathy for everyone dealing with this avalanche of emotions. Sexual violence is simply not taken seriously.
