AsiaPathの会議に参加してきました。初めてタイで性別適合手術をおこなった84歳の医師がきていて、難聴で15年ほど人前で話さなかった、今日が人生最後の講演ですと言っていてみんなスタンディングオベーションでした。タイといえば性別適合医療だけど、それも始めた人がいるからこその話でそんなに古い話でもない。初期のオペの写真からいかに技術刷新したか、性別適合手術は苦痛・悲劇・破産(お金がかかる課題はまだ残る)じゃなくて、ハッピーで健康になるためのもの、というのが最後のメッセージでした。

なおタイでは今年より一定の要件を満たす年2万人を目安にトランスのホルモン療法は公費助成されることに。無料です。年5億円ぐらいお金かかるので政治的にはめっちゃ物議を醸したらしい。ノンバイナリーも対象。金銭的な面だけでなく、自己流でホルモンやる人が多い中で健康管理されやすくなるメリットもありそう。絵に描いた餅にしないように頑張ると現地の知人が言ってました。
