I had the pleasure of being on Dr. Serena Wadwa’s podcast where we talked about the tensions of the personal and professional as therapists, how chronic illness impacts these, and answered a listener’s question about a loved one with Long COVID. Give it a listen! www.youtube.com/watch?v=L0Je...

My latest article is about misogyny & misogynoir. Black women are three times more likely to die in pregnancy. Black babies have the highest infant mortality. The government looking to cut Medicaid, food assistance & other critical support is forcing Adriana Smith to be an incubator for a fetus.

Adriana Smith, Misogyny and the Cruelty of Forced Birth
Adriana Smith couldn't access competent medical care when she needed it, and it killed her. Now the hospital is forcing 'care' on her by keeping her alive as an incubator due to Georgia's abortion ban

the thing I hate most about that rfk quote is that autistic lives have value and worth and beauty and dignity whether they are able to do the things other people do or not. no one is defined by ability or lack thereof and to frame divergence as lack is monster stuff, utterly godless

Here are 50 reasons someone might be masking in 2025. None of them have to do with anxiety or criminal behavior, and not all of them about COVID. Use them in your accommodations requests or when advocating to protect the right to wear masks/prevent mask bans. open.substack.com/pub/misfitme...

Are you an I ntersectional ally? Excellent! Then if you are able to wear a mask, please mask everywhere you believe medically vulnerable, disabled, chronically ill, and elderly folks have a right to be - even if you don’t see anyone who visibly appears to belong to these groups.

The next four years (and whatever comes after it) will undoubtedly be terrible in many ways for many of us. Remember your anger is a tool; let it sharpen you and spurn you to action. Try to resist the allure of hopelessness and helplessness, it’s what those in power are counting on.

I used to work for an elected official as the person who answered their emails. I can tell you from personal experience, if even twenty or thirty people all call an official in a day, they start panicking. This stuff does help.

Maybe I should know better, but I’m surprised at the number of folks who haven’t learned that you need to take someone’s actions into account just as much, if not more, than what they say. Some people will say anything to gain authority and power. Past behavior usually predicts future behavior.*

For every executive order, bill or funding cut that targets marginalized people, let’s counter with an act of kindness. Cut SNAP funding? Give to a community fridge Cut PrEP funding? Give to AIDS organizations. Mask bans? Wear a mask! Attacks on trans rights? Amplify trans creators.

Aside from the fact that “merit-based hiring” is ableist and problematic in the context of it being in opposition to DEI and EEO protections…are we really supposed to believe “merit” is the new measuring stick when this administration is hiring a cabinet full of the most unqualified people possible?

I’ve been trying to write an article on emergency preparedness when disabled. It’s so hard I would need 10 “go bags” to account for my complex medical needs. I can’t evacuate without assistance. Many places aren’t safe for me Disabled people need to be included in emergency plans

Just a reminder that most disabled people aren’t thought of in natural disaster situations. If you know of a disabled person who is in need of help during evacuations, please check in on them. Many of us are left to fend for ourselves and we’re often the most in need of support.

🚨 VERY IMPORTANT MESSAGE YESTERDAY FROM @who.int Pls share
We cannot talk about COVID
in the past tense.
It's still with us, it still causes acute disease & "long
COVID".
", and it still kills.
The world might want to forget about COVID-19, but we cannot afford to.In the past five years, more than 7 million deaths from COVID-19 have been reported to WHO,
but we estimate the true death toll to be at least three times higher.
On average this year, about 1000 deaths from COVID-19 have been reported to WHO each week - and that's just from the few countries that are still reporting.

REALLY tired of headlines getting this wrong. Vulnerable people aren't "feeling unprotected". They "are unprotected". Another way to say this is they are "being actively endangered". Take the emotional reasoning out of this or apply it correctly: to everyone else who is "feeling threatened by masks"
