What a joke. 🤦‍♂️

Occurred to me that I have to apologize to Ridley Scott. In the 2012 film Prometheus we're introduced to Rafe Millburn, aka "The Most Unbelievably Stupid Biologist Ever", and it makes WAAYYY more sense now that we know he probably got his bio degree from some LLM. Truly a man ahead of his time. 👨‍🔬🧪

Man I really dislike the Bsky image compression... anyway here's images in non-visible wavelengths of UV, NIR, and Ch4 from last night.

Welp I can delete all other Saturn data for this year because last night while streaming on Twitch we had a couple hour patch of dry and relatively calm air which allowed me to capture this stunning image near opposition! EdgeHD C9.25 QHY5III-678M Chroma 31mm filters #astrophotography #astronomy

Now academic paper mills and predatory publishers are big problem, and not linking to the paper is bad journalism. Did a search and I believe this is the paper referenced; onlinelibrary.wiley.com/doi/10.1155/... It makes the same claim with zero sourcing but says they did a computer simulation. 🤔

Yeah, that's actually a great idea. Ideally the data would be a bit better, but here's a decent attempt playing with GIMP and assigning 320-400nm to blue, 400-700nm to green, and 875-900nm to red. (re-uploading hoping bsky doesn't compress it too badly)

Just missed the small window of good seeing tonight, but happy with the result anyway. Besides looking at the rings in IR, I also tested a new photometric UV filter. Must say Saturn looks very ghostly from 400nm to 320nm! Will be good for spooky season outreach! 🎃

Last week I technically became a professional astronomer! I was hired to stream the Lunar eclipse on two giant LED screens for a performance by Itchy-O at the opening night of Tulagi Boulder Roots Music Festival. So many people came up during and after to say such wonderful things. #MoonJoy

You can probably delete the upgrade before it installs. Check for files in this path and delete at will C:\Windows\SoftwareDistribution\Download\ You can then go to Run "services.msc", find Windows Update, Stop it if running, then change Startup type: to "Disabled" and get bothered less.
