FINALLY FINISHED!! Behold, my entry for this year's @desertbus.org : A Hollow Knight/Silksong bug mask display! The masks are made of porcelain, with some thread for Lace. I stained, varnished, and lined the wooden display cabinet myself. The masks are attached by magnets. I hope folks like it!

If anyone is getting smacked with this - just use deer.social or another alternate client. Bsky is just an AT Protocol Client, and your Bsky account is an AT Protocol account - you can use your same Bsky account thru another AT Protocol Client, no migration or loss necessary. Could not be easier.

If you're a streamer on windows 11 check your audio input settings for your mic as there's now an AI powered "Audio enhancement" section that defaults to on which can interfere with your microphone audio if you're already processing your audio via OBS filters or other software

Yeah, Keepass has its benefits but I wouldn't recommend it to anyone who doesn't know their way around file encryption at the very least. Bitwarden also has easy mobile access, which is handy. Thanks for the confirmation!

While this is my personally preferred option, it's a LOT of work for someone who's done streaming full time through Windows for years, especially given that many streaming resources still don't behave well on Linux, even ProtonDB. More of a "future roadmap" decision.

A bonus benefit to physical security keys is that they're less likely than a phone to get dropped and broken, which can leave you locked out of your accounts until you get access to a new device with an authenticator (which has happened to friends).

I third it but will also note that you shouldn't feel obligated to go for an SSD. HDD drives are usually fine and are easier to manually recover if the drive fails in any way.

If you have reliable access to a second device and want to be extra safe, it also wouldn't hurt to shut down the infected computer entirely while you regain control of your accounts, in case the malware can execute shenanigans on your local router network.

Note that if the malware has affected your BIOS or firmware, a live USB can still be compromised (esp re: network traffic). I'd recommend only using it to back up your files for the time being, & stick to an entirely different device for account access until you can run an infection cleanup.

Any kind of account that you left logged in or had passwords saved in the browser, basically. If you have only temp access to another computer + a spare USB, you can try making a live Linux USB and using that to boot your computer to bypass the infected Windows install. I think that should work.

Like others have said it does sound like your device is compromised with a RAT. If you have access to another computer, use that one instead and log out all account sessions on all other devices. It might not just be your social & email, if you did banking on that device it could be at risk too.

They may have taken that email so that you can't use it to raise a Discord support ticket as the address associated with your account, which is usually how these things get elevated to be fixed. Without it you're going to have to lean pretty heavily on DM support.

If a fresh OS install is difficult to do but you have a spare USB drive, try making a live USB from a lightweight Linux system like Puppy Linux and booting from that. You should be able to use it to access your drive and accounts on your PC without going through the infected Windows install.

Just a heads up, my friend's discord was hacked recently, hacker sending the same minecraft mod messages. Within ten minutes of getting his account back (after like two weeks), it got rehacked. the hackers had a virus on his computer that retrieved the new logins to get them back in repeatedly

Interesting. In my part of Canada it's considered a staycation if you stay in your home city, even if you book a motel, and anything within your general area (& sometimes wider province) is usually "local tourism" or just a vacation/trip (unless it's two days or less, in which case it's a day trip).
