Weetje : uit een CT-scan van ‘het puttertje kwam naar voren dat er sporen van de explosie, zoals minuscule deukjes en korreltjes ontploft buskruit, nog op het werk te zien zijn. Ook bleek dat de verf nog niet was uitgehard toen de ramp plaatsvond: het vogeltje was nog nat, toen Fabritius stierf.

Bij deze donderslag, die volgens overlevering tot ver buiten de stad gehoord werd, raakte ook kunstschilder Carel Fabritius (een oud-leerling van Rembrandt) ernstig gewond. De 32-jarige schilder die ‘het Puttertje’ in 1654 maakte, overleed nog dezelfde dag.

Delft, 12 oktober 1654. Een opslagplaats met buskruit ontplofte en veroorzaakte een enorme ravage in de binnenstad. Bij deze ontploffing (bekend als de Delftse donderslag) vielen vermoedelijk honderden slachtoffers. Ook in de Nieuwe Kerk bleven ramen niet gespaard en raakten muren ontzet.

An elegant Maya ceramic figurine from Campeche depicts a kneeling noblewoman holding a lidded jar. Made between 600 and 800 CE, the object shows artificial cranial deformation and facial paint. Archeologists associate this vessel with elite rituals involving beverages or fluids for ceremonies.

My photo shows an ancient Greek pottery bowl with a rounded, deep body, wide open mouth and flared rim. It has a large handle shaped like a human leg, extending from the left side of the bowl in my photo, bending at a right angle and ending in a flat foot. The bowl has a camel-coloured surface decorated with dark brown geometric patterns, which include zigzags and meander motifs arranged in horizontal bands around the body of the bowl and along the leg. From Attica, Early Geometric period, circa 850 BC. It sits on a light stone coloured surface in a display case at the Altes Museum in Berlin.
