If I write in 3rd person past tense, it’s because the story needs it. If I decide on 1st person present tense for another story, that's what it wants. Stop assuming authors only make choices to follow certain genre expectations. We listen to gods far greater than industry. Characters decide.

Normalize reading sample chapters whenever available before deciding to buy so you don't get shocked by the writing choices It's hard to know if the author sticks the landing with the ending But present/past tense, single/dual/multi povs, 1st/3rd person—all easily understandable from the samples 🩵
