No, it did start with two RAF pilots being shot dead outside of a pub though.

The right wing: We should forcibly castrate migrants. Also the right wing: Let’s stop trans people willingly getting castrated.

I found the ending frustrating, other than that it was enjoyable to see Michael Gove handling an international crisis.

If I setup some Metasploit script with a bunch of custom payloads and random targets which ends up hacking a government website, can I also just say: "Oopsy boopsy! My machine just did that itself!" And walk away without consequence? Or will that be considered a serious crime I'm responsible for?

plenty of people run llm based agents with powerful models and do not end up hacking anyone. this is not an ai alignment problem, it is an openai being routinely criminally negligent as a company problem

In all cases, the AI Labs are at fault and the fact they can just go all “lol, look what our AI did, isn’t that amazing! The little rogue, so naughty, look how they messaged each other!” instead of “Our legal team are helping police with their enquiries” just says they’re apparently above the law.

Jessica Smith 🏳️‍🌈 @mintopia.net · 24/09/2026
Secondly, the models are either acting in a way that isn’t aligned with how we’d expect them to behave - showing a lack of effective controls on them; or they’re acting in exactly the way they’ve been trained - in which case it’s irresponsible of the AI labs.

AI models which end up escaping sandboxes and hacking sites and other companies is concerning and frustrating for a few reasons. The first is that the companies running them should be prosecuted for breaking the law. If anyone else did this privately it would be treated as the crime it is.

Everyone discovers this at some point :) Unfortunately CPU architecture still plays a part. Luckily it’s easy to set up pipelines and workflows to build for multiple architectures in a single manifest. Should be easy to fix - and if they have the dockerfile they can just build it themselves.

You can be the expert in something and still have people who know a little bit (that Claude has told them or they read about on Wikipedia) about that topic talk over you in meetings. None of this comes across as a deliberate choice, most people doing this don’t intend to do it IME.

The one thing I still find is that as a woman in tech, you need to speak up louder to be listened to; you also end up doing more work. Anything you propose or bring up in meetings or design sessions will be questioned far more than it seems to for men, so you have to prepare for it.

None of this was conscious choice from these people, and I have no bad feelings towards them - they turned out to be great devs too and lovely people. They respected my opinions and were great to work with. It’s just an unconscious bias that seemed to slip in from society.

Post transition (and a lot of weight loss), people who knew me before would still come to me and ask questions. New hires? Nope. They’d sit and stew on problems for days before either working it out or reluctantly asking for assistance from the geeky girl with pink hair.

Jessica Smith 🏳️‍🌈 @mintopia.net · 22/09/2026
Anyway, everyone knew I was the person to ask for any help or questions if you were a new developer - and I’d always help. Pre transition, not a problem, asking the overweight geeky guy about the codebase you’d been thrown at? No problem, people would come to me immediately.

I was working as a senior developer at a large company and was the subject matter expect for the main customer control panel software (a large PHP application with lots of legacy code and at that point, about 10 years of history. If you know PHP, let’s just say pre-composer ZF1 was the modern bit.

I have experienced the gender bias in tech; and in the one most obvious case it wasn’t even intentional and it was just subtle differences in how some developers behaved. It was thrown into even sharper relief as I had a direct comparison from before transition. So, thread:

Why are the journalists going after ADHD now? I presume they’re envious of those of us on medication who get our amphetamines on prescription instead of down the pub like they do.

I really hate the framing of these stories as "an AI agent broke out and hacked something." No, an inadequate sandbox meant that a powerful and unpredictable computer program was set loose on the open internet by the company that designed it. The agency isn't with the "AI agent", it's with the firm

"I know you've been in a car accident, but we've already had 4 broken legs this week, so you're just going to have to take 2 paracetamol and rest up. Try not to walk on it." "Yes, this is a tumor and it's spreading, but I've referred 3 people for chemo today already, sorry".

"Well yes, you have ADHD, but we can't officially diagnose you as we've hit our limit for the month, sorry" By definition, being diagnosed with ADHD requires you to prove it is having a significant impact on your life. Everyone currently diagnosed and treated is past this threshold already.

guys the UK gender clinics -𝕝𝕚𝕥𝕖𝕣𝕒𝕝𝕝𝕪- required trans people to use the facilities for their target sex, for two years, before they were given any access to healthcare. rationale is not where these people go looking for answers. it is solely about their bigoted priors. everything comes after that.

“But if you don’t vote for us, Reform will win” Still no deal. This Labour government has been the most transphobic in history and I’m already making plans to leave the country, Reform winning would only hasten that. Restore our rights or no vote for you, it’s simple.

I’m not against AI for software dev, it’s here and that’s not changing but as a maintainer of a large (but niche) open source project, I wish people would stop submitting issues and comments written by AI. If you can’t be bothered to write the post yourself, I can’t be bothered to read it.

My issue with it is that for me programming is 95% thinking and 5% writing actual code. I don’t want to sit there with someone staring at me while I’m thinking about things; or interrupting me when I’m just typing out what’s in my head.

He ultimately ended up working doing DEI in USAF by the time his service ended, and then went into the private sector doing DEI work and trying to make things better. I went from hating him to now thinking of him whenever I wonder if people can change - some can, and I find that encouraging. 3/3

11 years later, I come out and this person is back in the UK (he was serving in the USAF, so had postings around the world), and he starts talking to me, apologising and asking questions and trying to learn more. He regretted how he was before and wanted to know more and be better. 2/3
