Wed was a nightmare, 110°F high / 84 low. think I had a touch of heat exhaustion, but put up the lights anyway. Furcula cineroides, only 2nd showing this year, first time I’ve seen the underwing #bugsky #mothsmatter #lepidoptera

a grey and white moth with its wings fully spread. the body is stout and covered with downy looking grey and white hairs. the forewing has bands of grey and white scales, speckled with small black and orange dots. the underwing is nearly pure white, with black dots on the edge.

I was getting Winchester Mystery House vibes. but I saw the floor plan, and squinted at the pics.. obviously a regular staircase for adults, and one with short risers for the kids!

this is possibly the most cursed/hilarious way to show two different staircases

Saw the kind of sunset that made me think maybe god is real. Cascaded quickly from there. Absurd to be working a "job." My only job is to experience and contemplate natural splendor. This is very dangerous for the economy, we have to find a way to block sunsets

had a generous truce with the raccoons, which they decided to break! - 🦝🦝 provided water and den space - sheet moved to eliminate temptation - temp fencing & trailcam to protect sheet neighbors w/ open windows ~11pm heard me yelling thru the trailcam "GIT OUTTA HERE!" it was quite ineffective.

I remembered this image that explains it and I could find it quickly because I searched for what it was describing using its own alt text

Hand-drawn infographic on a blue background titled “Why use alt text?” with six panels in a 2x3 grid, each showing a reason with a small sketched social media post:

Slow internet: alt text appears in place of unloaded images.
Findability: alt text helps search content, shown with a search for “dog with banana”.
Screen readers: alt text is read aloud by text-to-speech software, shown as a dark transcript describing a Pomeranian in a banana costume.
Translation: alt text can be translated, shown as English to German.
Readability: text in images can be made legible, shown as scribbled text read as “a character says ‘hello guys’”.
Disambiguation: descriptions clarify intent, shown with a post asking “Can my pet swim?” and an image of a bunny.

the number of areas in CA that they're hitting simultaneously is really hard. local groups are stretched so thin right now, I'm not sure how we're gonna keep things going for the next 40 days we had 70 people kidnapped in 4 days here

you can relocate them off your good tomato plants - they'll have alternative food, and they're not gonna crawl back. then if you're lucky, you get to see this:

they are awesome and as moths they're pollinators! I think yours is Manduca sexta (Carolina sphinx / tobacco horn worm). if you have space, another option is to grow some some sacrificial plants. I usually grow a couple of tomato plants and some native nightshades

mine are absolute frenemies haha. I got Otter because Ko was alone and very unhappy. (my 16y/o kitty had passed from kidney disease) Otter is 3 and Ko is 8.. I keep thinking Otter will settle down but he still has crazy kitten energy.
