This little spot in Goldstream Provincial Park is tucked right off the highway. Some say the traffic noise takes away from the experience but for me once I’m lost in the greens, the moss, and the light filtering through the trees, the rest of the world fades away.

A line of sea birds sit on a breakwater just out from shore in Rausu, in the Shiretoko area of Hokkaido. That land you see behind them? That's Kunashiri-to (Kunashir Island or Кунаши́р). It's Russia. And just 22kms away.

An old Japanese gentleman stands next to a wooden house on the beach near Rausu, Shiretoko, Japan. I photographed this lovely gent up in Rausu in 2019, during the ten days I was there making and presenting a tv programme for NHKWorld. This was where he lived as a child. The hut is called a "banya" and is the traditional type of fisherman's hut in Shiretoko. This chap now runs a boat tour company.
