Sunday Taquitos #30: Flock This! Art by @ivan-ehlers.bsky.social
A cartoon of two people standing under a flock camera speaking to each other. The man says “I’m fine with mass surveillance ‘cause I’m not doing anything wrong.” The woman responds “… Until someone changes the definition of what’s ‘wrong.’”

This point needs to be made over and again: The main purpose of wealth taxes should not be to raise revenue. That's a small and secondary benefit. The main purpose should be to *reduce the fortunes of the ultrarich*. Why? Because those fortunes present a massive threat to democracy and public life.

Seems to be a lot of selective memory in UK's right-wing newspapers about schools not closing during the 1976 heatwave. I just checked and, yes, many schools did close early as well as allow parents to "keep their children at home if they wish". This clipping from London Evening News, 29 June 1976

BREAKING: I've secured a parliamentary debate next week on banning all MPs' second jobs. Farage has pocketed over £1 MILLION from outside "work" since the General Election. Being an MP is a full-time job. No MP should be out chasing lucrative second jobs. Let's end this racket!

I have never experienced a publication fighting THIS hard against reality. The sneering, patronising bullshit that they choose to publish should embarrass them - the problem being, after so many years of sliding down into tabloid status, they have zero shame left. None.

This country has heard enough from Tony Blair.
This country has heard quite enough from Blair, says Polanski
Zack Polanski has hit out at Sir Tony Blair's criticisms of the current Labour Party, saying his intervention is "pretty grotesque" - and too long.

This morning, the former prime minister issued a stinging rebuke of Sir Keir Starmer's Labour Party, warning that it has "no coherent plan" and is in the "wrong position" to win a second term in government.

Asked for his reaction by our political correspondent Rob Powell, the Green Party leader told Sky News: "I think it was 5,600 words too many. Tony Blair is a former prime minister who dragged this country into an illegal war in Iraq.

"I think it's pretty grotesque to see him selling the future of our children and grandchildren down the river through the kind of climate delay tactics, talking down clean energy and the security that we need.

"I just don't think this is a sensible intervention in a day where we're speaking in these extreme temperatures, to have someone who should hold a position of responsibility or a former position of responsibility to be speaking like this."

This is yet another example of the weaponisation of antisemitism. When so much of our media mis-report what Prince Harry said, it’s not coincidence, it’s deliberate and systematic. By omitting his reference to “anti-Muslim hate” they are turning news into propaganda

The King's Speech and cost-of-living crisis. 2.73m households in England live in fuel poverty. 4.5m-6.1m can't adequately heat homes and stay warm and healthy. Since 2020 energy companies made £125bn profit. 120,000 Britons die in fuel poverty annually. Yet no curbs on profiteering.
