romance-wise, I'd put SAYONARA LARA in the same pot as SOUND! EUPHONIUM. i root for Kumiko & Reina for the same reason as Lara & Mari-- the boy partners are boring and feel like default options. goddamn predictable Liz-from-FOR-BETTER-OR-WORSE-ass pairings...

panel from the Shortpacked comic BURNSAUCE, which parodies the end of FOR BETTER OR WORSE, where, after Liz spends like 4 years being in the big city and pursuing new opportunities and an exciting new relationship, she suddenly defaults to the boy back home. goddamit lynn johnston, you did NOT stick that aspect of the landing!!

panel depicts
mom (elly): Anthony CAN'T be dead, Elizabeth. WHO will you marry?
Liz: S-someone else? or I dunno, maybe I could be single...?

elly is a grotesque parody of the way Lynn Johnston draws excited characters, with round eyes and a triangle-shaped mouth.

Incidentally, IMO "postcard memories" is a relatively recent term; when I was a dumb kid anime fan, I'd always see these kinds of frames referred to as "harmony" or "kinen shashin." I don't recall seeing "postcard memories" in the 90s...! But maybe I simply wasn't looking in the right places.

Last year at otakon @crazynabe.bsky.social gave me this strawberry yakisoba. I was extremely afraid of it, so it sat in my cabinet over the winter. But now?? Time to eat it!!

Watched Kamen Rider J today, polishing off the nifty Media Blasters 90s movie trilogy BD release. It wasn't as good as ZO, but still better than that weird gross, drippy biological Shin Kamen Rider thingy. d... did they miss dubbing a line in, here? haha

My one complaint: they gave foghorn leghorn heavy eyelids and brows, to make him villain-coded. Not necessary, and I think it would’ve been a little funnier to have him doing his old ostentatiously sunny expressions while saying his vile corporate bullshit
