Mike Sphar @mikesphar.bsky.social · 25/09/2026By many accounts, he was an amalgam of Vimes and Granny Weatherwax in what made him angry about society. Injustice and cruelty in particular filled him with deep righteous anger. I don’t doubt he could have had opinions that “aged poorly” but his guiding stars would adjust his course more than not. 120

Mike Sphar @mikesphar.bsky.social · 05/08/2026The most pressing problem we struggle with is we still expect all code to be reviewed by humans, but the rate of code generation is testing the ability of humans to keep up. It's rapidly becoming this for some teamsstatic.klipy.comI Love Lucy Chocolate FactoryALT: I Love Lucy Chocolate Factory 020
Mike Sphar @mikesphar.bsky.social · 05/08/2026I also do have to stress that of course 1) not everyone does this, and 2) how we use coding agents is constantly changing, and we really don't know the long-term effect on, say, the ability to developer senior-level engineers from entry-level engineers, vs people like myself already senior 230
Mike Sphar @mikesphar.bsky.social · 05/08/2026Just as one very anecdotal data point, we do see a lot of success in software development having AI work with us. Some people do just hand off tasks to the AI and come back later, but many (inc myself) iterate with the AI in real time. Coding agents are a very specific implementation though. 140
Mike Sphar @mikesphar.bsky.social · 31/07/2026I won’t pretend to know whether a mega datacenter benefits a rural town economy, but if it does it’s not by employing hundreds of people long term. And for those few tech workers, any upward mobility likely means leaving the area. 000
Mike Sphar @mikesphar.bsky.social · 31/07/2026I’m one of those high income tech workers and I haven’t set foot in a datacenter in over 5 years, and even years before that it had become only occasionally. DC crews are mostly electrical/hvac, security, shipping/receiving, and smallish crew of entry-level folks as remote hands. Good jobs but few. 110
Mike Sphar @mikesphar.bsky.social · 31/07/2026Not even computer engineers really. They’ll need a few electricians/hvac folks, and handful of “smart hands” which are more entry-level jobs doing the onsite work for the remote engineers (like myself). No shade on them they’re great to work with, but they aren’t the real high earner tech jobs 020
