Overheard convo in coffee shop: “Been reading about them LGBTs” “Yeah, about how they're all spying on us.” “They come installed with secret software that uses your network…” Me: well I know more than a few queer people who are good with software but… My brain rewinds a bit. He had said “LG TVs”

NYC and adjacent friends, I sincerely can’t recommend this show enough. Manual Cinema is brilliant in general and this show is no exception. You have almost certainly never seen a show like this. manualcinema.com/work/the-4th...

The 4th Witch | Manual Cinema
Manual Cinema’s The 4th Witch is a fantastic new tale, inspired by elements of Shakespeare’s Macbeth , in which a girl escapes war and flees into a dark…

I had tickets to George Carlin at the Rosemont and I got stuck in bad traffic and then got completely lost trying to find how to actually get into the Rosemont and got so angry and frustrated I gave up and drove home, thinking "I'll see him next time", but there was never a next time

We know in Star Trek the Federation developed synthahol, allegedly alcohol without “negative effects, so does that also imply the existence of synthabbis? Synthstacy? Synthal meth?

I’m one of those high income tech workers and I haven’t set foot in a datacenter in over 5 years, and even years before that it had become only occasionally. DC crews are mostly electrical/hvac, security, shipping/receiving, and smallish crew of entry-level folks as remote hands. Good jobs but few.

“The writing is abysmal. None of the characters has convincing motivation for their actions or words. There are no sex scenes, and all the food looks horrible.” I don’t think I could love film commentary more than this.

MLB games today are on peacock. The white sox game is delayed, but the stream is just live shot of the ball park, with no audio but barely-audible sounds of stadium's announcements, otherwise dead air. Out of nowhere a woman's voice says "baseball" and that's it. Back to nearly dead air after that.

To add to the list, I highly recommend folks watch Stray Dog by Akira Kurosawa. I've never before or since sat in an air conditioned theater feeling such an unconscious urge to keep wiping sweat from my face that wasn't there. (Also it's a great movie with an excellent and young Toshiro Mifune)

re the last repost: I barely knew my father, hadn't seen him much since my early childhood and a rancorous divorce. Not long ago I stumbled across his obituary from earlier this year. Like Paul, my dad was who he was and did his best, by all accounts he was a good father to later children.

This is such a great under appreciated point of “cancel culture”. I don’t think someone who does something like Biss did should be in prison, or jobless and homeless, but there must be SOME consequences, and “you have to work regular schmuck jobs like the rest of us” is such a minimal consequence

Interesting to me because I was a very picky eater when I was younger, and I mean well into my 20s. Up to then my score would be 29. Now 30ish years later my score is maybe 4-5 depending on how strongly we mean NOT. I could eat any of them if pressed, but 4 or 5 I strongly prefer not to.

I think a lot of people would be surprised to learn how many small towns are politically dominated by their wealthiest resident, who owns a car dealership or fast food franchise or meat processing plant or whatever. America has been sowing oligarchs for a very long time.
