As DC’s publisher, Jim now has the opportunity to do the funniest thing: adjust the expectations of freelancers so no one ever has to worry about kicking into “5th gear” and damaging their health for unrealistic publishing schedules.

Love For All Mankind and I get it’s an American show but, given the events of the show, it would have been interesting to see the USSR end up looking more like contemporary China than a Cold War-era movie.

I cannot overstate how much it sucks when people decide to film people struggling with drug addiction and homelessness during their worst moments and then upload it to social media for clicks and lols. Absolutely subhuman behaviour.

The Day of Blood has come and gone, so let's get to No. 18 of my #startrek anniversary reads: "Star Trek - Defiant, Vol. 2: Another Piece of The Action" by @ifyoucantwell.bsky.social, @mikeseriously.bsky.social, Ramon Rosanas et al.
My Fable review of "Star Trek - Day of Blood" (3.5 stars): "Does what it set out to do but is quite action-heavy and light on the Star Trek trademarks. "Shax's Best Day" is a stand-out."Cover to "Star Trek - Defiant, Vol. 2: Another Piece of The Action" depicting Worf (big profile shot in the center), B'Elanna Torres, and Ro Laren (in black and blue) above a 24th century night skyline of San Francisco

And thus I've reached my goal of reading twelve #startrek books (novels, comics, art books etc.) in the anniversary year. No reason to stop, so let's get to No. 13: "Star Trek: Day of Blood" by @hivemindactual.bsky.social, @ifyoucantwell.bsky.social et al., edited by @heatherantos.bsky.social
My Fable review of "Star Trek, Vol. 2: The Red Path" (4 stars): "Less cosmic (horror) but more classic Star Trek, i.e. socio-moral dilemma and artificial intelligences. More of it, please."Cover to "Star Trek: Day of Blood" depicting a Starfleet Delta communicator (Voyager era) on a yellow-black OPS uniform with blood trickling down from above across uniform and communicator

Rebooting Star Trek is so lazy (I say as an unapologetic fan of the 2009 film) there’s 60 years of real history and 1000 years of fictional history to explore. Want to do something new and disconnected from previous stories? Voyager did that in 1995. It’s not that hard to figure out.

this is fucking unreal stuff from Noah Wyle on the magic of The Pitt. www.gq.com/story/noah-w...
“It’s a couple of things that work beautifully in concert. First: no music. Audiences are so sophisticated, but what they’re not accustomed to is not being told how to feel,” Wyle says. “You take all that out and it forces a level of engagement where you’re now looking for clues within the frame of the screen, which forces you to look up from your phone. And I think that is extremely engaging, especially to young viewers who aren’t accustomed to being asked to participate in a nonpassive way in the viewing experience.“Second point, shooting it with almost exclusively 50-millimeter or 65-millimeter lenses, which is the most comparable to the human eye—and only shooting from the point of view of a human being that’s present in this space. There are no cameras on gurney wheels going in the hallway. There’s no cameras on the ceiling looking down from a God point of view. You are limited to the perspective of a participant. You can look away, but you can’t leave, and it becomes an endurance test for you to stay on your feet as long as we’re on our feet. Which [brings me to my] third point: real time. Real time has an aggregate sense of tension that you don’t get in any other form of storytelling. What happened before is happening now, and these two things are going to add up to the next thing. And if we throw more ingredients into this cooker and keep ratcheting it up, it’s going to pop.”Wyle makes eye contact for his next point, delivering it with a Robby-esque matter-of-factness. “Fourth point: The election went the other way,” he says with a shrug. “We could have been a really good show with a lot of nice things to say in a perfectly normal Kamala Harris universe. And instead we became almost a beacon of hope and humanity in an alternative universe. But in the midst of that, fifth point—this is essentially competence porn. You’re watching really smart, dedicated people do what only they know how to do at a level that you don’t know how to do it, and you’re so fucking glad that they’re there doing it, and compartmentalizing their own stuff to put your broken pieces back together. You’re so reassured by knowing that there are people out there that laugh and joke and have the ability to lock in like that.”

Finally did some file organizing and it turns out I’ve done storyboards for about 150 different projects (90% commercials, then music videos, tv shows and films) not including my own stuff. And I still feel like I have no idea what I’m doing.

“A whole civilization will die tonight” is the most vile thing a US president has ever said, certainly during the post-1945 era when they’ve had the power to kill civilizations with the dropping of a bomb. I’m staring into the darkness. May this not be one of the most fateful days in human history.

God help us.
A whole civilization will die tonight, never to be brought back again. I don’t want that to happen, but it probably will. However, now that we have Complete and Total Regime Change, where different, smarter, and less radicalized minds prevail, maybe something revolutionarily wonderful can happen, WHO KNOWS? We will find out tonight, one of the most important moments in the long and complex history of the World. 47 years of extortion, corruption, and death, will finally end. God Bless the Great People of Iran!

You know when people run into a teacher 25 years later and tell them about the impact they had on their lives? I had that tonight with the old couple who owned the convenience store I used to go to for lunch in jr high. This sounds like a joke but saw them at a book fair I genuinely almost cried.

Don’t know it’s a strictly conservative thing but there’s this nihilistic worldview that I don’t understand. Activists bring aid to Gaza? “They deserve to get arrested/tortured FAFO.” Activists bring aid to Cuba? “It’s performative.” No one should ever do anything ever. Everything should be bad.

worth remembering, David Lynch directed “fix your hearts or die” specifically at transphobes. it wasn’t a generic “no mean people allowed” statement, it was said by his Twin Peaks character in defense of a trans woman he cared for and deeply respected.

Is this satire? The writer describes virtually every evil thing imaginable as inherently right-wing (hey not entirely wrong) and then asks why Gunn keeps depicting the villains in comic book movies as evil. This feels like the Christoph Waltz Nazi meme. comicbookmovie.com/dc-studios/w...
comicbookmovie.com
Why Is James Gunn Making Right-Wing Extremists The Villains In Nearly Every DCU Movie And TV Show?
DC Studios has a villain problem, and it boils down to a repetitive overreliance on far-right clichés, an approach that may prove a turn-off in the long-run for those on both sides of the fence.
