I’d read and bough the gruan for literally decades thinking it was vaguely on my side. Then came its treatment of Corbyn and I couldn’t believe what a was reading. Did me a favour in a way tho, it really opened my eyes as to how I’d been so gullible up to that point.

Musk deserves more ire than he's gotten, not less. But there's plenty to go around, and much of it should be directed at the army of sensible, respectable suits who've nodded along while fascists flood the zone with racist bile, eagerly sanitising their talking points for as long as I've been alive.

Is Britain fighting in the Iran war, is it? Are British special forces being deployed in a combat role in Ukraine. That would certainly explain why all these people are so extremely antsy, and yet also highly evasive.

Who is signing the drone warrants tonight in the UK?
Who would give the go order to engage Iranian threats?
Who is responsible for SF operations in Ukraine

On the one hand, Harry Cole is one of our most belligerent and obnoxious bullshit artists. On the other, yes, I can absolutely believe that successive governments have deployed Our Boys in all kinds of highly dubious and legally questionable operations, or that various clowns have been told about it

@robinince.bsky.social hi Robin. My name is Michael, my wife Jo. We spent a memorable evening in a lovely bookshop tonight enjoying your poetry. Wanted to say thanks. The world would be a better place if more people used their talent/platform as you have been strong enough to do.

We are into 1930’s territory now. World war is a real possibility. But this time with nuclear assured mutual destruction. Trump would love to pull the trigger on that. He is insane.

It’s very buoying to be able to be CAUTIOUSLY OPTIMISTIC for the future of progressive politics at the moment. I was told for several years by hands-on-hips Sensible Grownups that I was silly, deluded and ALSO DANGEROUS to still believe in socialism but I guess the left wasn’t dead after all.

I had a similar experience. I luv father ted & occasionally interacted with him ages ago. He was tweeting about the guy who taught his dog to Nazi salute, I replied to him something about it & he QTd me “another fucking idiot” to start a pile on. I was surprised & said so. He deleted & apologised.

2 things before that I think were relevant. He took on all the far right online crazies during gamergate. It was brave of him & he took a tonne of shit off them. Then he started posting about he & wife losing a baby, still born I think. Then he started his descent into this transphobic hate thing.

He’s had some sort of catastrophic breakdown IMO. He wasn’t always like this. Not that this means we should excuse any of the pain and damage he has caused with his bigotry obvs.

The thing is, he will deny the supreme court’s ruling & there will be an outcry, but in time that will subside & he’ll have more power. This is how a far right power grab works. The only thing that will stop this man i fear is a better aimed bullet than the guy who tried last time.

Maddow: 88% of the country says no, no, he cannot defy a supreme court ruling. Only 9% say yes he can. And you know, it's not the same thing. But I should mention that 9% is also the proportion of Americans who told yougov this week that they have a favorable view of the black plague

I’m a socialist, but I started thinking about things differently after reader David Graeber. Tho I’m closely politically aligned with him, he describes himself as an anarchist, cos he doesn’t think the 1st recourse to solving social issues should be more state legislation. There are always options.

All this talk of a weak Premier League … a fundamental reason why Arsenal are so far behind Liverpool is because they’ve only won 18 of 34 games this season. 16 times, therefore, their opponents have been a match for them, or better. Which, I’d suggest, is an indication of a strong Premier League.

The further towards the hard right Labour shifts, the more it’s the left’s fault when voters turn away from them.

The authoritarian hard right gov in the US & others around the world are intent on destabilising systems & societal structures with the aim of resetting to their preference. But in any system increased instability means more unexpected/unpredictable outcomes. War is certainly a strong possibility.

Exactly right. The way that barrier of shame is broken down is by someone (doubtless in the pay of someone else) putting themselves out there as The-Haver-Of-Shameful-Opinions and then they get platformed and barriers start to be eroded. A prime example of this in the U.K. was Farage in the 2010s.

There’s a reason they normally keep Starmer hidden away. It’s because he’s intensely dislikable. His personal polling is atrocious. If any of his team think wheeling out one of the most disliked politicians in the country is going to revive Lab plummeting fortunes then they are kidding themselves.

MikeReigns4 @mikereigns.bsky.social · 19/04/2025
Starmer is absolutely appalling in front of the camera. Thin skinned, an obvious liar, forgetting what he said last week and quick to anger. If he thinks Labour is tanking now, just see what two weeks of Sir Keir on TV does to the polling.

Starmer’s dad was a socialist and a Corbyn supporter. And I’m guessing there’s a good chance Starmer is named after Hardie in that case. The irony.
