Which should *never* fkn happen. Ever. The very concept is 💩

Mike Funnell @mikefunnell.bsky.social · 8h

Here in Oz the LNP (and probably ON 🤷‍♂️) keeps threatening to do this to Aussies who have dual citizenship (even if they don’t want it) so we are not as far away from this, here, as I would prefer us to be. 😬

Citizenship is a promise. The USA now routinely breaks its promises. Full faith and credit, eh? 🤔🤬

Because of course it fkn did 😡 Anti-trust? What’s that in an age of no trust? 🤯🤷‍♂️

We are so fortunate in Australia. Screening mamms from age 40 are free. It doesn't require a GP referral. It doesn't even require a Medicare card (there may be admin fees depending on the site). Just go to the website for your state to self-book online, or call 13 20 50. #BreastCancerAwarenessMonth

A picture of two iced donuts with the text:

DO-NUT FORGET TO SCREEN YOUR BREASTS.
Over 40? You're also eliaible for a free mammogram Talk to your GP about whether this is right for you.
Call BreastScreen Australia on 13 20 50 to book an appointment.

Thanks: I used your link to buy the e-book version and will read it while on LHI (which seems only appropriate).

The (successful 👏) rodent eradication program (plus getting rid of pigs and goats) has allowed native and endemic species (and island-specific sub-species) to recover from near extinction. Such as the lovely little LHI Woodhens, which are now thriving:

A native Lord Howe Island Woodhen.

Numbers have recovered so well that all birds are no longer banded (they all once were, until quite recently) and tracked 👍

There are max 400 residents, 400 tourists and ~400 temporary workers (police, quarantine, medical etc. plus, of course, hospitality staff). That’s part of protecting the important environment (sea life; bird life esp. breeding for migratory birds) while maintaining a workable community.

We (Dad and I) will meeting up with our friend Stan who does live there (he was born there!) There are a maximum of 400 allowed to reside permanently on the island — being born there is a big boost to that, as you’d expect. Residence is quite difficult otherwise..

It’s certainly on The World Heritage List (and, I’m glad to say, managed as such). From my last trip:

My trip to Lord Howe Island is getting really real: I’ve started packing, I’ve cleaned out and cleaned up memory cards for my camera, laptops, phone etc. and I’ve even booked my trip to the airport..

I wouldn’t — but I care rather a lot about the camera (which isn’t especially good on the Duo).

I don’t reflect often on being an immigrant, on growing up in a non-democracy, on leaving a war-torn country to move to freedom and prosperity, on going from a few halting English words to fluency in six months, on the painful but formative experience of being “the other.”

True story: a great family friend was liaison to the US Senate for the USAF then Martin Marietta (The Gigantic US Bomb Corporation — they made MX missiles). Bud said: “they spent US$millions teaching me to fly fighter aircraft — they should have trained me as a kindergarten teacher 🙄)”.

Very similar to the “route mapping” technique I was taught by the Australian Army (RA Sigs). ✔️

Most US Senators know, quite correctly, that if they did their job they would lose their job. So: “my paycheck” vs “the US Constitution” 🤭 We *know* where almost all of ‘em land, there 🤬

120

Mike Funnell @mikefunnell.bsky.social · 04/10/2026

This would all change if US Senators suddenly decided to do their job. But: how likely is that? 🤔🤬😡🤬

111

Mike Funnell @mikefunnell.bsky.social · 04/10/2026

Without any prospect of conviction in the Senate (2/3rds vote) then, sadly, I suspect you are right 😢

Sam Wood from The Bachelor charged with #DV assault and strangulation last night. #MVAWG How many other men seriously hurt women on a Grand final weekend? Might not be relevant to Mr Wood but we know DV reports go up significantly on AFL NRL GF weekends.

My personal guess is that you didn’t 🤔 From “out here” you seem to have done a lot of quite important things very well (no matter what you’re thinking “in there” just now — I hope only temporarily🤞). I see a wonderful, thoughtful, insightful person who has helped raise two wonderful children. 👏❤️
