“Ban forward progress? While you were watching the game, Alito already did.” — Bluesky reply guy

Yes it steals everything that I write and makes me click to ignore it in every app, but that's it. If someone pulled the plug on the whole wretched thing overnight, the only thing I might notice is if a human answers a customer-service line.

From over the weekend, wrote about coffee berry borers, gall wasps, honeybees, and how the Spurs must be mindful of every subtle change in their "delicate ecosystem." www.expressnews.com/sports/spurs...

How Spurs can make changes while preserving 'delicate ecosystem'
Mitch Johnson must balance the Spurs’ starting lineup, player roles and team chemistry to preserve last season’s NBA Finals magic.

When you shared those concerns with your boss and other leaders at
ESPN, did they offer a defense?
No. It was almost like putting their heads in the sand. What bothered me most was a seeming disregard for the dangers and not thinking about the ramifications of ESPN normalizing gambling for an audience that looks to ESPN as sort of their sports guide, essentially—not looking down the road at the parallels between gambling and other addictive things in our country that have been normalized, such as opioids and cigarettes, that ended up becoming major public health crises.

Three-time champ has second-place guy exactly doubled up going into Final. Dominant player. Only way he loses is if he bets $1 and misses, while other guy bets it all and gets it right. He bets $0. Clue is super-easy. Everybody gets it right. Then he gets beaten on the buzzer on easy tiebreaker.

Have posted nothing but column links over there for a long time, and do it mostly because there are subscribers who still like the reminders to click on them. But yeah. Pretty gross.

Their thinking is, “We want to see whether we need a FG or a TD.” Fine. But the team that kicks almost never has time to get the ball a second time.

Mike Finger @mikefinger.bsky.social · 13/10/2026
Well how about that, the team with the first and third possessions won.

Mike Finger @mikefinger.bsky.social · 13/10/2026
Why do NFL teams keep choosing to kick in overtime? This might work out for the Rams, but giving yourself a chance to get the THIRD possession seems like the obviously smart play in this format.

At a pivotal moment Saturday, Steve Sarkisian didn’t trust his quarterback, and didn’t trust his play caller. Both wound up proving he was right to doubt them. www.expressnews.com/sports/longh...

Seems timely to remind people (in light of Nurk having to miss time) that Jaxson Hayes was on video pushing and spitting at his partner with her yelling about not feeling safe and the NBA has seemingly not ever handed down any consequences. Feel bad for Jazz fans who will have to cheer for that.

Wrote about Victor Wembanyama creating a stir and finding his voice, while channeling at least a piece of his former coach. Sunday column, a day early: www.expressnews.com/sports/spurs...
The little pauses bring back memories. They come during the two or three seconds between a question and an answer, while a man seated in front of a Spurs banner considers how much he can say.
Or how much he should say. Or whether it would be safer not to say anything at all.
In that seat used to be a different man, an older one who didn't mind ticking folks off, whether they were fellow millionaires or paying customers. A man who decided there were certain things people needed to hear, whether they wanted to hear them or not.
Occasionally during those pauses, that man reckoned it was worth it to speak what he believed to be the truth. Sometimes he caught grief for it, but he understood the power of his own voice.
Now, little by little, a younger man is learning the power of his.
